i could rant against like half of the cards' roster for overperforming. jhonny peralta is at an age where almost everyone is declining nowadays - especially without the help of PEDs that help you become even better despite entering your mid to late 30s - yet he's playing the best baseball of his career, coincidentally in the two seasons that he's wearing a cardinal uniform. matt carpenter was some random mid-round draft pick turned perennial mvp candidate. by far the highest pitchers' LOB% in baseball? you guessed it, the cardinals.

Alright, even if the Cardinals suddenly collapse which isn't going to happen (they'll probably regress at some point but it's the Cardinals, they're not going to 69 Cubs), the Cubs aren't good enough right now to take advantage of that and go on a run to catch them.

Last year's Royals, who gave 72 starts to Guthrie, Vargas, Chen, and Hendriks, were 26-29 through 55 games. The idea that the Cubs are incapable of playing a good bit better than they have to date is to ignore the talent on their roster and the talent they can call up from their farm system(or trade for using said system). That's not to say it's a certainty or even the most likely outcome, but the outright dismissals are silly.

Was us getting Archer even a thing?

Um, pay attention guy. We sent him to the Rays in the Garza trade. Rumor has it they had the choice of him or McNutt and they took Archer.

I follow the minors and prospects maybe 1% as much as most of you, and forget about them the second they're gone

[expletive], I think even Mojo would know Archer was in our system.

mojo knows those guys for sure

Oh yeah. I was still paying attention back then. I just realized the other day that I remembered that the Cubs traded Nolasco, Mitre and Pinto for Pierre and all I could think was "why have I retained this knowledge?"

Lynn was dealing with right forearm tightness throughout his start tonight but doesn't expect it to be an issue moving forward. #stlcards

That seems a little irresponsible to leave a pitcher with forearm tightness on the mound for another couple innings after it was clearly bothering him. I'd be pissed if the Cubs did that with Arrietta or Hendricks for sure.

rolling around on the ground isn't much different to how holliday normally plays defense.

He probably tore the fabric of space-time to infuse his replacement with the power of the cosmos
