So if the Cubs met with Ross, I am assuming Welington gets dealt really soon? I cannot tell if its intuition or indigestion, but I think another trade is coming today. Follow up with a Ross signing.

A couple of long shot names: Alex Gordon

Yes, please.

Would be my top choice, get him out of KC in a better lineup and I think he could hit 25 HR's.

Gordon would easily take Baez, Alcantara and Vogey.

I would trade Baez, Edwards and Pierce for Upton. I think the Braves are stockpiling arms, plus i think Alcantara turns into a Zobrist type player.

Baez, Alcantara, CJ Edwards, and high ceiling Rookie/Low A guy for Upton. Too much?

To make me puke and John Hart deliriously happy? No, I'd say that was spot-on. #-o

Would want to extend Gordon first. He has a 2016 player option.

Cubs and Padres both turning up their pursuit of corner-outfield power hitter, and #Braves have one of the few elite ones available in JUp.

Is it possible to get CarGon or Upton without giving up Javy, Addison, Soler, or Bryant?

Braves supposedly want pitching, can Edwards headline a trade?

Jesus if our lineup next year was....

Alcantara

Castro

Rizzo

Upton

Bryant

Soler

Baez

Montero

Lester

Although I'm guessing Alcantara, Castro, or Baez would be gone in a Jupton trade

Jurko says the Cubs shouldn't keep Bryant down because he will be worth an extra 3 wins in April. Silvy responded so he is an 18 WAR player over the year?

Jurko says yes, he could be LOL...

Well I agree if we are getting 18 WAR out of Bryant than we should just bring him up...

I think Baez's days as a Cub are numbered. I know that will make some on here happy, but I still think his potential is worth waiting on, but if he can be used to acquire a player that puts the Cubs over the top it needs to be done.

I can't imagine Upton fetches THAT much considering free agency. I think it was Law that said he'd fetch less than Heyward. I'd have to think Alcantara or Almora would get you close.

Given that the Rox owner loves CarGo, I think the price for him would be too high given the massive risk.

As for Upton, I'd like to have him, but he is going into the final year of his contract and for some reason doesn't seem too fond of the Cubs. That being the case, I'd be hesitant to give a whole lot up for him.

Maybe taking his brother with him would lower the cost and persuade him to waive his no trade.

But I'm still not sure Theo is in the market for a one year rental who isn't exactly the OBP type.

I see the Cubs waiting him out unless something amazing comes across the table.

One, this would be selling fairly low on him.

Two, his potential bat at 2B is worth the risk. He could have league best power at 2B with a good glove there and on the other end you can live with your 2B struggling through growing pains, if he does struggle & he is batting 7th or 8th (80% of 2B can't hit in the post steroid era now anyways).

Three, he has struggled in every stint at each level to start.. I want to give him another shot at it. Hell, everyone pretty much expected him to struggle coming up last year (maybe not striking out THAT much but what happened wasn't totally unexpected).

Nobody is untouchable, but I hope he isn't moved.

If I'm the Cubs, I'm not giving up Russell or Bryant (obviously) for Upton. If the Braves demanded Baez and wouldn't take less, I'd have a tough decision to make. A Rizzo/Soler/Upton heart of the order, with Castro, Montero and Bryant... =P~

He could have league best power, regardless of position. He has too much potential for them to give up on him now. They can bat him lower in the order and tell him to just have fun and kill whichever pitches you can make contact with, and as long as he bats. .230, his walks, glove, and home runs will make him above average at 2nd base.

I'd take Justin and his brother in a hot minute if it meant the price went below the Baez threshold. Baez for JUpton is a really tough one. If you truly believe that Bryant can stick at 3rd and you're reasonably optimistic that you can sign Upton, then it's pretty straight forward to make that deal. Lots of gray area before that point though. Also, too bad the Braves don't really have a LHRP of interest, that'd be a nice sweetener to make a larger deal more palatable.

I wouldn't give more than Almora for a 1 year rental unless we're talking some sort of major superstar 6-7+ WAR player. I'm assuming Upton's chances of resigning are essentially zilch even if we could somehow talk him into waiving the NTC. Edited by Elrhino

Both Uptons for EJax and Baez. I'd have to say that I'm in if Maddon thinks he can get anything out of BJ.

I have no idea about the batting order because I still don't see much OBP out of non-power guys on the Cubs, but here's a shot:

Soler LF

Valbuena 2B (later Russell?)--Castro vs. LHP

Rizzo 1B

J. Upton RF

Bryant 3B

Montero C--Welington vs. LHP

Castro SS--Valbuena/Alcantara vs. LHP

BJ Upton CF

WAY too much.

I saw Shark at the Cubs convention a couple of years ago. Emerged right after they announced his arb agreement - and he was pissed. It sucks that it didn't work out with him, he got a real nice signing bonus and endured all the crap. Now that it's all seeming to come together, it seems that he got out at the wrong time.

The logic is pretty moot at the moment since Bryant's playing time during those weeks is in Valbuena's more than capable hands.
