Look for baseball winter meetings to be as busy as ever http://www.bostonglobe.com/sports/2014/12/07/baseball-winter-meetings-likely-busy/8fFPWXekFlpIN6RXNLdZQL/story.html?event=event25 … via @BostonGlobe

Francisco Liriano set up well as a Plan B after Jon Lester agrees to terms. Some execs think tipping point will be question of 4 years or 3.

Would be pretty insane if Duquette goes to the Blue Jays right when the winter meetings are starting.

It would essentially destroy Baltimore's off season. At the same time, how can Baltimore's owner refuse to let him interview? You've then got a pissed off GM, who feels like he is being screwed over, making team decisions for the next 4 years.

C.J. Wilson is being made available for trade. I know he had a rough year but is there anything to suggest it was a fluke or is it most likely declining performance? Only thing I can see on FG is that his cutter and slider usage dropped while his changeup usage increased.

2013 (velocity in parenthesis)

Fastball: 32.8% (90.9)

2-Seamer: 16.7% (91.4)

Cutter: 11.1% (89.2)

Slider: 19.1% (82.8)

Curve: 14.7% (77.5)

Change: 5.3% (85.3)

2014

Fastball: 29.3% (90.6)

2 Seamer: 23.0% (90.9)

Cutter: 7.9% (88.4)

Slider: 9.7% (82.5)

Curve: 17.4% (76.5)

Change: 12.1% (85.1)

Velocity stayed very similar year to year. Just a shift in pitch usage. Is he salvageable? He's due $38 million over the next two seasons and has a limited no trade clause.

Gm's trickling in at winter meetings. Dan Duquette, Theo Epstein among early arrivers.

I'd be interested. I Wonder if they'd be interested in a Jackson-Wilson trade? They save $16 mil over the next 2 years with that.

Explore the trade after we (hopefully) sign Lester and they'd shift focus to Scherzer/Shields

And to think they owe it all to C.J Wilson

They owe a lot of it to their aggressive, risk-taking philosophy that will inevitably produce some C.J. Wilsons.

Mike Trout helped a little too.

They had a great season, but their short to mid term outlook is...volatile. That's a really talented but old, expensive, injury prone team with lots of declining stars and few contingencies. The could win their division next year, or they could finish last. I'm not sure which one is more likely.

But as you say, Mike Trout helps.

Getting an early start on doing nothing, amirite?

Chatting up Justin Mastersons agent to see if he will take a contract that defers payment until 2020

They aren't finishing behind the Astros

Wait, they have our executives use public flight as opposed to private jets? PTR gon PTR.

Angels supposedly trying to deal CJ Wilson, maybe to make a run at Scherzer. If they want to do a straight salary dump I'd look at that - Wilson isn't a #1 but he's still a very good pitcher, and his peripherals and velocity have been consistent. Signed for 2 years for a little over 30M.
