jeff samarzija is on the verge of being traded. the white sox are the likely landing spot. http://cbsprt.co/1Gc0GEP

Pressure on the Cubs now.

Huh? Who the heck cares what the White Sox do?

You don't think hell will be raised if the White Sox had the best offseason in baseball and the Cubs did nothing..again?

Hey awesome we're going to pick up 40M in contract to get a catcher who isn't as good as Castillo but hits righties slightly better. Hell of a way to use 40M. No reason to make this trade unless they're taking Edwin back.

He's better than Castillo.

Not according to fWAR or rWAR and I simply don't believe the new metrics that claim that framing is good for 20 or 30 runs a year.

Well then I'm just going to choose not to believe in fWAR or rWAR.

Shark is dead set on testing FA next year (as he should). I hope Billy fleeces Hahn. That being said, the Sox should have a tough rotation.

Sounds like the White Sox aren't giving up anything of substance in a deal.

Why is it so hard to believe such a gap could exist on the extremes (actually, in this case, it'd be more like 48, by one source at least) when they catch thousands and thousands of pitches a season? That's a lot of opportunities for the skill disparity to manifest itself.

Maybe the White Sox just want to acquire good players so they can compete better within their division

I wasn't being serious

How are the White Sox even close to having the "best offseason is baseball?"

If they add Shark, they're by far the lead dog. Especially for what they're giving up for him.

Assuming all the rumored deals go through, the Cubs have already acquired more projected 2015 fWAR than Samardzija.

They're maybeprobablynot the lead dog right now if nobody makes any moves the rest of the offseason. What an odd tangent.

I especially like this...

Chicago's top young middle infielder is Tim Anderson but it was expected the White Sox wouldn't surrender him for a rental player.

The A's traded Addison Russell and the White Sox won't give up Tim freaking Anderson?

The A's were also in the middle of a pennant race and knew they could recoup some of the cost by trading Samardzjia over the winter.

If Marcus Semien is the main piece, the A's got fleeced.

People seem to be assuming that "Semien and prospects" means that Semien is the main piece. That's like assuming the first deal was "Straily and prospects."

Twitter rumors have it as Semien and maybe 2 lower level prospects for him. Apparently the White Sox won't even give up Tim Anderson in a deal.

It's kind of amazing that Beane is going to have traded Samardzija,Moss and Donaldson and received only a single top 100 prospect, one well outside the top 50.

If #Cubs get Lester, industry source says next move would be to pursue big bat and try to accelerate revival. A bat in addition to Montero.

As if we would have mistaken Montero for a "big bat".
