#RedSox and #Reds have discussed deal that would send Yoenis Cespedes to Cincinnati, but there's been no recent progress, sources say.

 

Wait, isn't this what that one kid was saying was happening a week or two back? Did he steal it from someone?

8:47 PM: After retweeting a post about how Yoenis Cespedes would be a good Christmas present for the Reds, Brayan Pena tweets an awkwardly phrased message about how Cespedes "will" (meant would) be a great addition to the Reds.

 

8:57 PM: Wesley misinterprets Pena's tweet and jumps the gun, breaking the news that Cespedes has been traded to the Reds In the coming minutes, he realizes his mistake and starts slowly backing down

 

10:47 PM: @incarceratedbob jumps in with actual Cespedes news, reporting the Mariners are one of three teams in trade talks for him. In doing so, takes a shot at Wesley and denies his Reds report.

 

11:58 PM: Wesley, desperately needing to regain credibility, regurgitates the Mariners information, but plays it safer and more subtle this time, and leaves out Cespedes' name in lieu of "power hitting outfielder"

Yeah, I was surprised to see he's only 23. And I know 23 is old for A+, but he his K/9 was 12.61 this last year. Stuff has to be okay, maybe he can still make it as a relief pitcher

To be fair, when you say "White Sox stuff" it's safe to assume it's actually anti-Cubs stuff. I went to a WS game when I was like 10 (when they were my 2nd favorite team) and was really weirded out that all the merchandise was just anti-Cubs.

Dodgers maybe for Castillo? I like the idea of a platoon myself, but if Ross becomes a package deal to get Lester, Castillo has no reason for being here obviously.

Friedman put up with a .250 slugging percentage from Tampa's catchers last year to utilize their defensive skills; i'd be surprised if he values Beef very highly

i'm not really sure how much "pursuing" you have to do with the target is a 38 year old backup catcher who hit .184 last year.

Not to mention that Ross as Lester's caddy sorta neuters the idea of playing platoon advantage with his games. I'll have to think some more about how Castillo could have to be part of that 'big bat'. Who would want Castillo that has a good OF to give up? Washington? Dodgers? Rockies?

Yep. I was excited about getting solid production from the catcher spot and keeping both fresh.

 

If we don't get Lester, hopefully they don't bother with Ross and just stick with Welly and Montero unless they can still get an upgrade somewhere by dealing Wellington.
