Yes because Harper is so valuable the Nats wouldn't even accept a Bryant/Russell/Soler package.

is this intended as hyperbole? it's dead wrong

It's probably hyperbole. They'd take all 3. But two is probably fair value.

Signing Lester has made fans drunk with lust for next year. Russell, Baez, Bryant? Trade 'em all. Trade Baez for a rental player in Upton. Trade all three of them for Harper. Doesn't matter - 2015 or bust!

Bryce Harper is not a "2015 or bust" player you prospect-slurping goon.

Trading away all of our top prospects for anybody, which is what it would take for Harper, would be an incredibly short-sighted and stupid move. As would trading any of our top 4 for a rental in Upton.

If Bryce Harper was still in the minors, he'd be OPSing 1.200 as CFer in AAA and they'd retire the No. 1 overall prospect spot so that all future prospect lists had to start at No. 2.

*Not* trading multiple top prospects for Bryce Freaking Harper is short-sighted. He's *younger* than several of those prospects you're scared to trade.

I stand with this guy

RT @PWSullivan: Cubs ordered a bunch of pizzas from Basic. Looks like an all-nighter again.

I want that to mean so much more than it probably does

I don't think they'd pull an all-nighter for Gomes. At least I hope they wouldn't.

According to a report from the Sun-Times, several teams are showing interest in Welington Castillo and Travis Wood.

The Phillies are among the teams interested in both Welington Castillo and Travis Wood. And the Giants are another one of the clubs that has shown interest in Wood. The Rangers have reportedly considered trading for Wood as well.

The Diamondbacks need a catcher after dealing Miguel Montero to the Cubs. And Arizona could talk to the Cubs about Welington Castillo according to Jack Magruder.

The Sun-Times pointed to the Phillies possibly offering OF Ben Revere or infielder Maikel Franco in a trade to the Cubs.

The Cubs “aren’t in a rush to trade Castillo” according to Gordon Wittenmyer, but if the front office deals Castillo, David Ross could be in play for the Cubs as previously reported.

Travis Wood and Welington Castillo are arbitration eligible for the 2015 season. Wood is expected to see an increase in his salary to around $5.2-5.7 million after being paid $3.9 million in 2014. Castillo in his first year of arbitration eligibility. Castillo should receive between $2-2.3 million ($530,000 salary in 2014).

We already know what Theo thinks about Castillo (granted that doesn't necessarily mean he won't be traded) and that he sees him and Montero together much like most of us do, so whatever, but I'd gladly trade Wood for anything of value considering I would've been fine with non-tendering him. Hopefully there's truth to the interest.

I feel like Cardinal fans would really really hate Jonny Gomes, and maybe he'll hit some big home runs off the bench for us and we'll all love him, so I'm kinda whatever with him getting a spot on our bench. He's been a decent offensive player two of the last three years and has a good approach. Someone I wouldn't hate to see pinch hit, mostly and especially against a lefty.

We do already have a lot of backup OF's though so w/e. Not sure who the odd man out would be if Maddon got his clubhouse dude.

While Maikel Franco is a really nice bat, I haven't the faintest idea where he would play. He's barely passable at 3B and I feel like we've got this 1B thing covered. I also have about zero interest in Ben Revere. The only way I'm interested in moving them to Philly is in a Hamels package.

I hope its us but I feel like its SF

I think I'd rather have Anderson for that tier of starter, but I'm not really sure.

I'd move Wood for just about anything. Don't want to move Castillo at this point, though

I think I would agree, but it's 2:30a and I forgot he was a thing. Anderson's issues have been more injury related than anything. To me, Masterson is probably more mechanical and will probably cost a bit more than Anderson or he just actually sucks. They're both a lottery ticket though so I think I would trust the decision of the FO and who they think Bosio would be most likely to fix.

sources: dodgers, padres on verge of completing matt kemp blockbuster.

The Padres make no sense to me.

LAD fans are going to be crushed. For whatever reason they still believe Kemp is an MVP player who is worth multiple top prospects. Last I saw they were nearly unanimous in saying they wouldn't give him up for Lindor or Russell.

I'm in the Anderson lottery ticket camp. He's a legit TOR pitcher when healthy (2.91 ERA, 2.99 FIP, 3.55 xFIP pitching in Colorado last year) . His injury issues last year weren't arm/shoulder related (not that a back injury isn't worrying). The Cubs are the type of franchise who can take a gamble on him. They're in Win Now mode, and if it doesn't work out they have the salary padding to eat a short term bad contract and a small army of end of rotation candidates to eat up his missed innings. I almost prefer Anderson to Shields, given the contracts they're likely to get.

The Los Angeles Dodgers have agreed on a trade that will send Matt Kemp to the San Diego Padres, according to multiple media reports.

Los Angeles will receive catcher Yasmani Grandal, pitcher Joe Wieland and righty Zach Eflin, while the Padres get Kemp and catcher Tim Federowicz, according to U-T San Diego.

The Dodgers will also send about $31 million to San Diego to cover part of Kemp's remaining $107 million salary, reports say.

So let me get this straight:

Out: Kemp(-30 million), Haren, Gordon, Federowicz

In: McCarthy, Kendrick, Grandal, and a few miscellaneous prospects

McCarthy > Haren

Kendrick > Gordon

Grandal > Kemp (if not in raw performance than certainly in fit for LA's roster)

And that whole sequence was payroll neutral. Friedman on the Dodgers is gonna suck.
