Damn, Matt Kemp would have looked really good in left field for us.

We already have Chris Coghlan and hopefully we're looking to get rid of him.

he hits the ball very far and lots

He had a -40.3UZR/150 in LF last year. That's worse than Any year in Adam Dunn's LF career.

That should tell you that it's completely unreliable. He was a -8.8 in RF.

To simplify, looking at Kemp's UZR as an outfielder, he's been above average once, in 2009. His last 3 years(which remember have had quite a bit of injury trouble), he's -12, -35, and -25. He's a DH defensively at this point, and you're hoping he kills the ball enough to be league average as a whole. The Padres are going to pay 5/70 for that and they gave up a quality young controlled catcher and a couple arms for good measure. Woof.

That trade was all about trying to convince their fan base not to abandon them completely.

Matt Kemp seems a younger Nelson Cruz at this point; you just can't play him in the field if you want half-way-decent value from him

edit: didn't see tranny's post, so i guess this probably sounds kind of redundant

He really should be playing 1B for the Padres. Letting him roam the outfield at Petco might lead to the first -fWAR player with an 850+OPS.

That's a per/150, over 500 innings. Most innings he saw at any position.

Well they got us back

I'm not sure they got us back quite as hard though.

Didn't he turn down a pretty good sized extension from the Indians last year? What an idiot

Unlucky.

Velo dropped nearly 3 MPH last year, I'm scared he's broken. I'm fine with this.

Perfect example of what I was saying the other day...I believe the only part of this that got Tweeted out yesterday by any of the mainstream local people (and I could be wrong) is the "we're all in for the future" part.

"People ask if we're all in for '15, and the best response is we're all in for the future, and the future starts in '15," Epstein said Wednesday. "[The 2015 season] is important. We're going to do some things to put as competitive a roster as possible on the field and try to win.

"Our goal is to try to win the division, and, as [manager] Joe [Maddon] said, to win the World Series," Epstein said. "We're aware of what we're growing. ... We're trying to build towards a long run where we can have success year in and year out. We're not going to sacrifice that even as we try to maximize our '15 roster."

Someone forgot to update David's software from the 2011 version

2014's davOS update runs like garbage on a device this old. going to have to just deal with this until we get a new one.

Lol, I thought you could be, but I wasn't sure because I thought I remembered some people saying they actually wanted him. I couldn't remember if you were one of them.

this is why you never do the update right away. we should have waited for PSD to work out the kinks

Meanwhile...

Jim Bowden of ESPN and SiriusXM hears that the Mariners and Nationals are still discussing an Ian Desmond trade.

Bowden notes, however, that the M's are not willing to include Taijuan Walker or James Paxton in a return package. Desmond is due to become a free agent after the 2015 season and the Nats probably feel like they're not going to be able to afford to lock him up, so a trade this offseason is a real possibility. The 29-year-old shortstop has rattled off three straight 20-homer, 20-steal seasons.

Sure would make a deal with Washington a lot easier if they lost their shortstop...

Brad Miller has been rumored to be the lead piece headed back to the Nats.

There's a Theo quote over the past few days too where he says if you do land one of these big names, it can change your focus a bit to where you may add a little more than you would have otherwise.
