baez is becoming the player i least like to see come up to bat. it's fun when he does well, but the strikeouts hurrrrt. and he always strikes out.

This is the part of Baez's level up progression where he starts to show signs of adjustment right? Will be interesting to see how quickly he can step it up.

I'd imagine a couple of months.

Not really. It's been like two weeks. It's going to take quite a bit longer for him to adjust to the majors.

The Mets are still building around young starting pitching because pitchers never break and usually hit their ceilings. Hernandez is a buffoon and I hate the sound of his voice. Seinfeld is the only thing I like about him.

PS - My hatred for the Mets runs deep and I have no idea why that is, but I can't stand anything about them.

I find them so much more tolerable and harmless than the Yankees.

Looking at Cub hitters we care about with carefully selected sample sizes...

Baez - .205/.239/.318/.557 last 11 games

Alcantara - .176/.250/.239/.489 last 22 games

Rizzo - .234/.315/.340/.655 last 24 games

On plus side...

Castro - .397/.414/.529/.943 last 17 games

Eh, Rizzo's been coming out of his slump lately. He's been really good the last 7 games or so. This performance from Baez was fully expected, so I'm not worried yet. Alcantara has definitely looked bad for a while now.

Castro deserves to be celebrated.

Or it won't. There's really no way to know.

Yeah, it'd be great if next season could just start immediately after this season ends, because I think that would about the time frame needed for him to make his adjustments. As it is now, I'm hoping for some success in the next month or so just so he's got something to build on going into next year.

Basically, I'm hoping that the 6 months off doesn't screw up his normal progression (200ish mediocre PAs, then the lights turn on).

if pressed to make a determination, i'd say right now that i expect that Baez will probably settle into a Soriano-like (the Cubs incarnation) career, with huge slumps and scorching hot streaks

And at a middle infield position with 6 years of team control, that is an EXTREMELY valuable asset.

I was surprised that I don't see many people making rich man's Soriano comp for Baez. I leave the smart baseball stuff to the rest of you guys but the high power, high strikeout, low walk profile screams Soriano, no?

I think with a lot more value though, because I think he's going to hit more home runs while also being a second baseman.
