When some others and I pointed out to Curt Schilling on Twitter that Bryant was never in fact demoted from anything since he wasn't ever on the 40-man, he promptly pulls out the "pshh, like you'd know better than someone who actually played" card on us for some odd reason that doesn't really make sense. Should probably make a terrible joke about Bryant "evolving" as a player in his 9 games at AAA and call it a night.

Oh, there's no way I could watch an actual cricket game. Match? Hullabaloo? Whatever it is...I just don't mind the highlights.

there is actually something about cricket that appeals to the baseball fan in me - the long history, the meticulous record-keeping and comparisons with players of the past, bowlers using different tactics and captains setting the field in certain ways to attack various bowlers. it can also be a fun day out; you don't have to pay that much attention so you're just getting drunk and socializing in the sun.

that being said, test matches (played for 5 days, but still often end in no decision) are [expletive] boring. some of the world cup matches were pretty exciting though.

when i was going to school at u of i, a bunch of people played cricket on the south quad sometimes. walking by and watching them on a regular basis, i became (and remain) completely adamant that i could have crushed all those fools at batting or whatever is called thanks to my baseball background. this is probably one of my greatest character flaws, but i still think i'm better at a sport i've never played than anyone in that large group of people who played it regularly.

I turned on the Score for the first time in a while, and turned it off quickly. Good lord...Joe Cowley is filling in for Spiegel. Why on earth would you want Cowley on the air?

I do this when I see professional cricket, even.

I know it's an extremely lucrative sport for it's participants, so objectively I understand that there is big league competition to be at that level and make that money. Objectively I understand that I do not possess elite hand-eye coordination or bat speed but subjectively, I watch it and believe in the very core of my being that I would absolutely rake at an international test match level. Come at me, India. Come at me, Australia. Come at me, England.

Y'all don't know from baseball. I'll crush tater after tater. Change the game forever.

I also believe this about women's softball. I would rake Jennie Finch or whoever the hot shot pitcher is these days.

Cricket is actually pretty tough with the ball's ability to bounce. It's also not baseball intuitive to hit the ball hard on the ground or in areas that would be otherwise foul in baseball.

But I'd bet with some training and practice anyone who's decent at baseball would be pretty good.

Kenny Mayne arguing with Harold Reynolds about how good Brandon Phillips is is hilarious.

Where were they doing this? Can't imagine Reynolds is allowed on ESPN air...

Cricket is baseball except all the strategy and crap actually matters. Baseball fans hyperventilate with joy when a player intentionally hits the other way or bunts or something. The shift is considered a radical defensive deployment. In cricket, there's dozens of shots (swings) the batsmen choose from and the defensive alignments are varied and extremely important.

The downside is how often everything hinges on whether or not a play was the equivalent of a foul-tip. Down to the point where you can have five-minute reviews where the umpire is trying to determine if the ball made a tiny sound as it went by the edge of the bat.

I got into it when I was working the night shift at a newspaper. I would get home at 2 or 3 in the morning and pick up any live sports on the internet.

Test matches for me are hit and miss. When they build to an exciting finish, it's awesome. When all of a sudden there's a flurry of action, it's awesome. But it's not something you plan to sit and watch for the entirety of the match. It's more something you keep on in the background while you work or do other things.

Joe Maddon will be on the Spiegel and Goff Show on the Score every Tuesday at noon throughout the baseball season.

I'm sorry if this has been asked, but it's doubtful and didn't feel like reading the 214 posts I've missed.

Who is your favorite sports announcer?

My vote probably goes to Gus Johnson. Though listening to David Feherty is awesome. I just don't consistently watch enough golf (The Masters made me think of this question).
