colin cowherd sacked by espn, a week before he was scheduled to leave. he will not be missed.

http://espn.go.com/espn/story/_/id/13314040/colin-cowherd-no-longer-espn-air-comments-dominican-republic-players

The flap stems from Cowherd's comments on Thursday, which were made while debating whether it was difficult for a front-office executive to take over managerial duties -- using current Miami Marlins general manager/manager Dan Jennings as an example.

"It's baseball," Cowherd said Thursday. "You don't think a general manager can manage? Like it's impossible? The game is too complex? I've never bought into that, 'Baseball's just too complex.' Really? A third of the sport is from the Dominican Republic. The Dominican Republic has not been known in my lifetime as having world-class academic abilities. A lot of those kids come from rough backgrounds and have not had opportunities academically that other kids from other countries have.

i don't like cowherd, but i don't see how that's a big deal at all. they were looking for a reason to can him, i guess.

Cowherd was leaving ESPN for Fox in like a week, so firing him is a mostly symbolic gesture.

Sure, but now Fox has to be the ones that pick up a guy that was fired for his racist ravings. It's not great noble gesture from ESPN for sure, but it puts Fox in a weird spot.

I think the scandal does that regardless of what ESPN does. Maybe if no one had freaked out about the racist ravings, but they did so the awkwardness exists whether ESPN cans him or not.

This just makes him perfect for Fox News.

Listening to Zach Zaidman talk about baseball is like time warping back 15 years. Like even moreso than most sports talking heads.

Even ignoring the quality of his content, he's just so awkward to listen to.

Lincicome is a special contributor to the Chicago Tribune.

This made more sense than anything I've read ever. We've got a seat in the Phillies front office waiting for you Bernie. Nothing beats a player with the grit to get it done on his own and a pitcher with a good win total that's what Hawk Harrelson calls TWTW.

Was this article in the publish queue for 15 years or something?

Modern baseball statistics are much like gluten or sleep numbers. You know, crap someone made up for no good reason.

Yes, that fictional gluten

Let's not be rash and lump in gluten free diets with good stuff.

Let's not be an idiot and lump everyone who lives gluten free into the same group

Yeah, but most of them are the worst and just assuming that gluten is bad for them. It's cool for the relatively few people actually with gluten issues since they have a lot more food options these days, but holy [expletive], it's like the new Asperger's in terms of people just deciding to self-diagnose themselves with something.

I'm semi-sensitive to it because one of my kids has been gluten-free for about 3 years. She had digestive problems (bad constipation) which lead to behavior problems (she always felt bad, so she was often moody and unpleasant). Eliminating gluten solved the physical problem, which greatly improved the behavior problem, and we went from something that was a constant source of stress to an afterthought.

Sure, there are a bunch of douche-bags who have taken to it like every other fad diet, but Bernie Lincicome can eat a bag of dicks for his dismissive and condescending statement (particularly to open an article, which I'm sure only got worse)

Of course there are people who have legitimate problems with gluten, but it's like maybe 1% of the population.I have a good friend who was able to stop wearing glasses after they discovered they had celiac. The clowns who literally have no clue what gluten is or that it's likely the reason most of the human population has survived as long and well as it has makes me want to throat punch every damn one of them. Gluten is delicious and amazing (for most people).

Ugh, I don't wanna defend Bernie, but you know that your daughter, and even you, was not who he was talking about, right? Read between the lines a little.

I'm far more outraged at him slamming Sleep Number-type beds. Those things are so damn comfortable. What's next, thread counts?!?

Thread counts are definitely a scam. No standardization. I gotta feel my sheets to know if they're soft.
