I was gonna post this in the NFL Offseason thread, but it's most about ESPN than anything else. I figured it might be good to separate some of the sports media news into it's own thread.

 

Two weeks ago, PBS made public its plans to produce a documentary from Frontline called League of Denial. The film would be done in cooperation with ESPN's Outside the Lines. The movie is controversial for its critical look at the National Football League, which has not cooperated with the film whatsoever, on the issue of former players' health problems, particularly pertaining to concussions. Thursday, PBS announced that ESPN would remove itself from all involvement with League of Denial.

Interesting. I don't think ESPN's own reporting on the issue has changed though. Last Sunday's OTL, for example, was a rather scathing report on Elliot Pellman, the doctor that the NFL decided to use as its concussion expert for years -- and who has no actual experience with brain injury.

Greg Anthony and Clark Kellogg are apparently switching roles at CBS Sports for college b-ball, with Anthony as game analyst and Kellogg in the studio.

 

I am ready to be proven wrong, but I don't like that move. I've enjoyed Kellogg's work as a color guy.

Really, really enjoying Olbermann's new show.

 

Absolutely. He's been away from sports for so many years (as sports journalism has simultaneously gotten terrible) that you forget just how good he is. He does a great interview, he's funny and his sports highlight segments puts all the ESPN hacks to shame. Great show.

Well, that's interesting. How in any way did he think positives would come of that? I guess he's getting talked about which is something that hasn't happened for years. I'm sure somewhere in the ESPN executive offices they have a countdown clock to the day his contract expires.

He doesn't get the awards he usually does but Reilly gets talked about plenty.
