Feels more like a death than a trade. I was never much of a fan, but I do respect the way he plays and have enjoyed the six or so weeks he's good every year.

Meh return.

I'll miss the guy. He was at the gate my dad and I entered at RFK Stadium on a player meet & greet day and he gave us a big laugh and a "who knows?" when we said he should sign with the Cubs. The actual deal was pretty appalling from day 1, but still came with a sense of excitement where I was really hoping the Cubs were putting on their big boy pants when it came to spending like the big market team they are (yeah, the sale stuff was looming in the background, but still). He's had some VERY frustrating stretches, but overall I liked him as a Cub and I loved how he drove the meatballs insane.

Twitter is to journalism what ramen noodles are to food. Enjoyable in small doses, but I wouldn't recommend using it as the base of you diet.

I don't believe for a second that we eat the bulk of Soriano's salary and get a fringy A baller in return.

I understand the need to clear space for the kids to play, but I won't be pleased if the Cubs just give Sori away. He still fairly productive and more importantly, he's apparently a great influence in the clubhouse.

Hope the return it at least intriguing.

So they must think junior is a real thing

Yeah wasn't a big fan of soriano but came around on him last couple of seasons. Will miss his month long tears 1-2 times a year and his interactions with the fans in LF. will remember him for things like his inexplicable run of throwing out runners at home in 2007, his extra innings grand slam against the Astros putting us temporarily in 1st in 2009, that one series against the Braves in either 07 or 08 where he hit like 10 HRs.

I will also remember his failings in the playoffs, that dropped routine fly ball that lost a game in Pittsburgh, and the eternal image of him helplessly flailing at a breaking ball.

Or Sweeney. Or they plan on getting Ellsbury and moving DeJesus to LF. Any number of things really. This does make it easy to give Lake an extended run though.

I'll always feel Soriano got a raw deal with the fans during his tenure with the Cubs. Too many fans expected him to be something he wasn't by the time he came over, and as a result thought he was the symbol of everything wrong with the Cubs since the bottom fell out after 2008. Yet he was always working as hard as he could at the park, and in the field to get better, made every effort to connect with teammates, and never said one disparaging word about anyone else.

Yeah, I sincerely doubt this was at all prompted by Junior.

Yeah, great attitude and seemingly works his ass off, yet the guy has the tag of being lazy (largely because of when he was slowed down by injuries/age, being afraid of a brick wall and because he's brown and fans are racist assholes). Always got a kick out of his attitude, especially, as UMFan pointed out, his interactions with fans in the LF, and his interactions with fans in general. It would have been real easy for a guy that often made the villain to be standoff-ish or a straight up dick to the press and the fans, but he made himself available a lot. I've seen him signing autographs and posing for pictures a lot whenever I've showed up early.

As stupid as it was where you had fans booing him at times for literally every out he made, I was at Wrigley for several of his 2-HR games (and one 3-HR game) and those were some of my favorite memories of Cubs games because people just went nuts over him and when he went on those tears it felt like he could hit anything.

To say the very least.

He's a guy who has his warts, but by all accounts has always worked his ass off, been a first class teammate and has been pretty good overall on the field, but has been treated like crap because of the contract he was given. Even when the fans have been really hard on him, he's remained positive.

The way many fans have treated him is embarrassing.

I think it has very little to do with Lake. This has been brewing for a while, and the FO no doubt realizes that Junior's flaws are.

I was there in 2009 when Soriano hit the walk off grand slam against Houston. That was basically the last week the Cubs were serious contenders.

I was too. One of the most awesome things I've ever seen at Wrigley.

Little-known fact: That was also Samardzija's first big-league win, as he pitched the 12th and 13th innings in relief. (ETA: actually his 2nd. Apparently he won a game in 2008 that I forgot about.)

It didn't mean much in the big scheme of things, but I won't soon forget how hard that guy worked to get better on defense going into 2012. Could have won a Gold Glove, which was a ludicrous thought when he first got here.

I'll miss Sori. My uneducated guess at a return is Bryan Mitchell. He's in High A, on the 40 man, with very middling looking stats. But according to BA, scouts say has a chance at having a plus plus FB and CB.

guh, DeJesus as an everyday corner outfielder on a team that hopes to win more than they lose? vomit-inducing.

DeJesus OPSes as a Cub: .753, .765

NL average LF those same two years: .763, .757

What's the problem?
