Cubs Den says that the Cubs are "seeking" Neil Ramirez in a deal. It's remarkable to me how many guys the Rangers have that I would not mind acquiring. Out of like a dozen names I'd heard or gathered so far, around 4 were in their preseason Top 10.

I know Odor isn't as popular a target as Sardinas but I like him a lot.

@BenBadler: If I'm making a trade with the Rangers, one guy I'd want is Rougned Odor. Premium position, rakes and no clear fit in Texas.

@BenBadler: Yes RT @Dylanj85 odor higher than Alcantara in your eyes?

And Odor is a much better name for headline writers...which is important.

I could only imagine Harry trying to pronounce Rougned Odor backwards.

Is it bad that I still do that? I try to say it like I think Harry would. Very drunkily.

that t.r. sullivan guy says the rangers aren't even willing to part with luke jackson now. i'd rather extend garza than trade him for a package with olt as the best player, even if the other 2 guys are good.

This deal is getting done today, do we all agree?

If it's with the Rangers, yes. They want Garza to pitch Saturday Night.

I think if the Cubs could have come to an agreement with Garza they would have done that already. Garza knows his value on the open market and that's what he's going to seek. Woe is the team that signs him to that deal.

Are you new to this team? Ryan Dempster, Dan Haren, Brian Roberts, et al. It'll be 2 more weeks. :-)

I really doubt the talks would be this far along if they weren't even willing to give up one decent prospect.

Yeah, seriously if Texas wants to pull that, if I'm Theo and Jed, I tell them to get fucked and find another trading partner.

They'll take the draft pick compensation if they have to.

These trade talks wouldn't have gotten this far if TR Sullivan was actually accurate about the players being talked about.

Garza also realizes his value will be suppressed if he's tied to losing a draft pick.

we're seriously going to have to agree to disagree on this one, TT. i still love you and all.

Maybe it's not worth much, but I agree with you here. I'd be happy with Olt coming to the Cubs as a piece in the Garza trade.

Does that mean I think Olt will end up coming good? Nope. But I pretty much work under the assumption that most prospects won't come good. But talent is talent; it doesn't always have linear, or even constant, improvement. Not that they're comparable players, but Domonic Brown and Chris Davis had been ostensibly left for dead at one point, too.

The real question is whether anyone's actually hearing anything or the reporters and some Rangers scouts/office intern are playing telephone and slowly making stuff up.

Theo/Jed are waiting until Garza takes his afternoon nap to make the trade

He doesn't have an NTC. Let him snooze away.

The Rangers and the Cubs continue to discuss a trade that would bring pitcher Matt Garza to Texas. Among the names that have been mentioned are third baseman Mike Olt and pitchers Neil Ramirez and C.J. Edwards. The Rangers are not willing to give up pitchers Martin Perez or Luke Jackson. The Rangers would like to get a deal done that would allow Garza to pitch Saturday night against the Orioles.

The Chicago Cubs told Matt Garza's agent that they would trade the right-hander to add inventory for the future, Garza told ESPNChicago.com's Bruce Levine on Friday.

"They told my agent [earlier in the week] that they were going to move me," Garza said. "They said as much as they like me they need to add inventory for the future. I want to stay but that doesn't seem possible now."

Garza, Dempster, Feldman, Maholm is a pretty good four man rotation of starters to dump over 2 seasons for a team with one of the worst records in baseball over that time period.
