I kinda hate how every pitcher we're likely to get is most likely to end up in the bullpen.

I'm not sure I buy that Edwards can't be a starter. Even though he's at Low A, there's a lot of room between his K rate and hit rates and those of someone who can't be an MLB starter.

well, we have to add good relievers somehow

I could only imagine Harry trying to pronounce Rougned Odor backwards.

Is it bad that I still do that? I try to say it like I think Harry would. Very drunkily.

That's the only way to do it.

Have we reached the "people continually post crazy overreactions to any tweet with the word 'Garza' in it" phase yet?

Phil Rogers ‏@ChiTribRogers 17m

Very good names in those Rangers-Cub talks. RHP C.J. Edwards, 21, has Cy Young tools. RHP Neil Ramirez, 24, is safe bet as No. 2-3 starter.

Jason Parks ‏@ProfessorParks 6m

@ChiTribRogers Edwards is more of a backend starter type and possible bullpen arm. Ramirez is definitely a bullpen arm; possible 7/8th type

Rogers is obviously crazy(Are you reading those tweets, BA?), but I still say that's a pessimistic view of both those guys from Parks. Compare Ramirez to Alberto Cabrera. Cabrera matches Parks' description of Ramirez very well, a likely reliever with potential set-up stuff who also could still be a starter if he made some adjustments(unlikely). Ramirez, while following a similar path as Cabrera in terms of age and levels, is striking out a bunch more guys. The difference is similar to the difference in Samardzija and Villanueva's K rates, to compare. With that in mind, I think putting an arbitrary ceiling on his potential as a reliever when he's missing so, so many bats as a starter is premature, to speak nothing of his ability to stick as a starter.

That goes even more for Edwards, who could trade a K per 9 for a H per 9 every level from here to MLB and still look like an MLB starter statistically.

So we can possibly get the next Johnny Bench AND Alex Rodriguez? Do they have the next Willie Mays as well? I think that would be a fair trade.

After discovering FanGraphs and consulting it for 2.7 minutes, Phil Rogers can confidently report that Ramirez projects to be a slightly more effective Mariano Rivero.

Matt Garza (Fresno St) trade from Cubs to Rangers is "99 percent done." Teams going over medical records now. 6 players in the mix

Now Im hearing Garza has called Dempster to consult the trade options. Wait, is it too late to make a Dempster trade joke?
