Jackson killed the ball his first 250 or so PAs in AAA

so Jackson had a start at AAA that wasn't indicative of how his long-term performance would be?

Do you know of any guys who were awful for 250+ PA at AAA and then straightened it out as if nothing happened?

I've been silent, but I'm on TT's side, btw.

I mean, I'd love to be wrong and get a premium talent for less than if we'd gotten him last year, but the K rate scares are too much for me right now.

no, i don't, but i'm no expert and i'm in no state to research anything right now.

Olt, Edwards, and Jackson represents a pretty nice value for Garza. And also represents a huge blow to 2014 by losing Garza while getting back minimal value that can contribute right away.

That would be great value. I don't like Olt at all, so if they could replace him, whether with a position guy or a 3rd pitcher, I'd like it even better. But the third guy is a throwaway. The first two would be outstanding value for 2 months of rental. If they get both Edwards and Jackson, I'll consider that a wonderful deal. Way better than I would have dreamed we could get for Garza six weeks ago.

We hear Alfaro in play now. http://Chicagonow.com/cubs-den .

Using the "2 pitchers and a position player" template, I'd want to pull from 3 groups like this:

Pitcher 1: Perez, Feliz, Tepesch

PItcher 2: Edwards, Jackson, Buckel

Player: Alfaro, Sardinas, Odor

Make sure you get at least one player from each of those lists, and hopefully one guy that's at the top of one of the lists.

all i'm saying is that given a good return on the SP front, Olt would be a nice flier to take. the guy has mashed and walked his way through the minors thus far.

yeah, it's a pretty damning k-rate, but i still think he can get it down. what cannot be gotten down is Jackson's k-rate

I'll take Alfaro, Edwards and Payano

and wasn't there an issue with Olt's vision that has since been corrected?

he was getting floaters apparently, which is freaky as hell. i have 20/15 vision and i got them for a while and then they went away. but they mess with you when you start getting them.

He did have eye surgery.

Before: 81 PA, .139/.235/.236/.471, 39% K%

After: 172 PA, .234/.343/.455, 30% K%

Manny Ramirez just looked at video of his swing and helped him make a swing adjustment, apparently. That doesn't really mean anything, but... tidbits and fwiw and all that stuff.

Give me any 3 of Jackson/Edwards/Olt/Odor/Sardinas/Alfaro and I'm completely thrilled with this trade. Ideally I'm hoping it's Edwards/Jackson/Odor.

Needs more surgery, apparently.

mmmm, seems to be trending in the right direction. it's not like you're 100% coming back from eye surgery right away. especially with motherfuckers whipping balls at your face

I think the recent backlash against Olt around here is going a bit over the top.

No, he's not in any way the type of guy that can headline a package right now. But as the 3rd piece? Yeah, I'd love to have him in the system and see if he can't bring the K rate down to around 25%. He's plenty valuable at that point.

I want Jackson/Edwards/Alfaro.

After reading up about Alfaro, he's raw but the potential for something real special at a position of need is there. I found this tidbit in a scouting report on LonestarBall:

Enthusiasm about Alfaro is largely driven by his impressive power potential and his big arm. In his chat session this week, Jason Parks described Alfaro as being a 6 runner, with 7+ raw power and an 8 arm. If the arm and power do develop that much, and if his hit tool progresses, Alfaro could be an All Star.

Meanwhile, in Mooney's latest, he hears Rangers don't like Cubs asking price and are well down the road on Plan B......

Meanwhile, I agree completely with Craig. Edwards and Jackson is great value, getting Olt as a third piece would be just fine.

He's just re-linking his post from 6 hours ago, which means the info is even older than that, as ridiculous as it sounds to call 6-8 hour old news irrelevant.
