RealGM is talking about the Celtics looking at Prince or Battier.

I'd obviously love either one, but I don't see how the contracts match up for either one. Both are in their last years of their contracts, and the big(ger) contracts that would have to go back would be O' Neal or Robinson (or both) and they both suck and are signed through next year. That and we don't have a young guy to send back to make it worth their time to take on the bad contract(s) I don't think Bradley, Erden, or Harangody is going to get anybody to care.

I don't like it for the Knicks because they could've had Melo in the offseason for nothing but $.

Watch what happens when the new collective bargaining agreement comes down this summer. The salary cap is going to get lowered. The Knicks had to get rid of salary/players to be able to afford anything other than Amare and Anthony.

I see. You raise some good points.

So what do you think we should do about the SG situation?

ha, don't get me started, I could go off on about 20 tangents...

i would argue that felton is a huge loss long-term. huge.

I believe he is replaceable. The combination of Amare and D'Antoni's system is making him look better than he is.

this was his last year there anyway, they weren't gonna re-sign him

Trade machine has him signed for next year

I'm just stupid. I had read that the plan was to use him a stop-gap and then sign CP3 when he was available, which is summer 12, not summer 11.

None of that is a reason why they wouldn't buy him out.

How does it benefit the Pistons at all to buy him out this season?

The next owner hasn't been decided yet. Davidson isn't going to make a move that eliminates a possible asset and the next owner may not approve of. Worst case he's still insurance if they have injuries. It's still possible that they can trade him with Tayshaun's expiring or make a bad contract swap for a piece that they can use in the offseason. Or if Kuester is gone next year they can still get something out of him because he still likes Dumars. Or what if they can find a deal for Ben Gordon or don't bring Stuckey back or T-Mac leaves? Now they don't have that overcrowded backcourt next year.

with these moves would they even have the cap space available to sign a CP3 or Deron Williams?

No and if a hard cap is instituted, they definitely wouldn't have any room to add a guy like that.

They are screwed if they go to a hard cap. I'm certain NYs plan is to add Deron or Paul and build role players with the MLE.

Kevin Pelton evaluating the net effect to the Knicks season resulting from the trade:

Adding it all up, SCHOENE sees the revamped New York lineup as about a 47-win team over the course of a full season. That's ahead of the Knicks' current pace of between 42 and 43 victories. While that difference would translate into only a win or two over the second half of the season, that could be an important margin for New York. John Hollinger's Playoff Odds currently predict the Philadelphia 76ers are likely to jump the Knicks in the standings, but with an average difference of just a win between them. That could mean the difference between facing the Chicago Bulls in the first round instead of the Boston Celtics or Miami Heat.

Reading some ESPN chats from this morning, and Knicks fans are in full delusional mode. They think the Knicks are a better bet to win the East than Orlando now.

My opinion is similar to Pelton and Hollinger's opinions: the Knicks may have just improved from the 8th best East team to the 6th best. Throw a party.

EDIT: And right on cue...

shawn (long island) - I feel like youre not giving the new Knicks roster enough of a chance at scoring a first round upset if they play the bulls. The knicks will ahve defensive issues and depth issues, but their two superstars are great at drawing fouls and getting to the line. If they can get chicagos frontcourt in foul trouble, you telling me that chauncy, fields, carmelo, and amare cant beat rose

David Thorpe (12:41 PM) Yes, that's what I'm saying.

Hell the Bulls might have issues signing Rose long term if a hard cap is instituted

No, Luol Deng will have some issues finding a real estate agent if a hard cap is instituted.

If they pass a hard cap, you can count on less salary-matching restrictions on trades.

This is true, but from a business/revenue standpoint it's a huge win. Ticket prices, merchandising, media revenue etc is going to blow up. The Knicks were criminally underachieving in those areas.
