Bukie basically summed up my opnion on them. To be honest, when they first picked up KG and Allen, I figured their decline would have started by now. Rondo and Perkins's emergence has been huge, as has been Rivers not riding the vets too hard. (Even with that, I've been pleasantly surprised at the health. Granted, we'd have a good shot at 2 titles with Garnett healthy in '09 or Perkins in '10, but you can't be too upset with the # of games played from that core.)

hey ssr, what do you think Boston's window is right now? When they made the trades a few years back, i figured they probably had a 3 year window. well, i was wrong. and when looking at them now, i have no idea how much longer theyre gonna be this good. another year or two? thoughts?

The window expanded for them because Rondo ended up better than most were anticipating. In addition, NBA players are more effective as they age in recent times, for some reason. Allen had been declining and then revived somewhat this year.

However, general consensus is that Garnett, Allen and Pierce are due for a steep decline very soon. At that point, the team is building around Rondo and probably one of Perkins/Davis, and would be sorely in need of shooters and slashers (similar to the Bulls last year, except Deng is actually doing it this year).

i dont see them competing for a top four seed after garnett, allen and pierce all leave with a nucleus of rondo and perkins. playoff team, but not really competing for anything big. obviously though who they replace their big 3 with will determine how good they will be.

Word on the Twitter is that Williams is livid about the trade, and didn't want to board the plane out of Utah. Not that he refuses to go to NJ, but that he didn't hear anything about it until he watched it on SportsCenter this morning.

Well yeah, no team is going to compete for a top 4 seed when you take away 3 of their 5 starters. Garnett is signed through next year, and I have no clue what the plan is from there. He's got way too many years on his body to give him anything more than 2 years, but he's such a key cog to the defense, that I don't know how you expect to replace him. I'm guessing Ainge just rides the 3 of them into the ground, hoping to steal one last title after it's obvious they're in decline.

Given what happened to the Bulls after 1998, it's not a terrible idea to go after as many titles as possible, as long the team's playing at a reasonably high level.

Sloan, reached by The Associated Press Wednesday morning at his second home in Illinois, was aware of the trade but didn't want to say much.

"I have no reaction to what the Jazz are doing. We wish him well," Sloan said of Williams. "We wish the Jazz well. Good luck to Deron."

Sloan then said he had to "go rake some leaves right now."

Is that a normal activity in southern IL in late Feb?

He's a pretty weird guy isn't he?

Pacers tried to blow it tonight but hung on. Brandon Rush with a dunk to provide the winning basket. 26-30 with Utah up next. \:D/

I love this team right now. And Tyler Hansbrough with 21 and 12, yes please.

suck it, jazz fans. first you lose sloan and now deron..... and had no warning signs whatsoever that either were about to happen.

but hey, you guys got all jefferson and he's better than boozer right? you'll be fine. korver/brewer/boozer will break when they come to the bulls.

So was Deron just a prop to help the GM force out Sloan?

Not sure about that. I do think that the Nets got a better player than the Knicks did this week, and gave up less going forward.

agreed, but they didn't get him to sign an extension. not sure who made out better. it will depend on whether or not deron ultimately stays in NJ.

but yea, i lol'd when i checked espn.com and saw that the nets ended up getting a better player anyways

Pretty embarrassing to see what Deron's become.

yea, i basically agree. i'll always love him and i'll never forget the arizona comeback (still the most amazing sporting event i've ever experienced), but about a year ago i started losing a little respect for his character. his proclamation that he was the best PG in the NBA (which was true at the time, but still), the calling out of the front office for trading ronnie brewer, and now this. he kinda seems like a dick. also his haircut is unfortunate.

just another reason that rose is the man. the most controversial thing derrick has ever done was eat to many gummy bears

Or have someone else take his SATs for him. But the gummy bears might be worse

I don't think anyone actually cares about it (even imb and ssr).

if you aren't cheating you aren't trying duh

also it's not his fault he's dumb. instead of bashing him for cheating, we should praise him for using the little intelligence he has to agree to cheat. the guy just continues to defy the odds even when things are stacked against him.

I don't really give a poop. He shouldn't have had to go to college for a year anyways when it was clear he didn't want or need to. But let's not make him a saint or anything because he's really good at basketball.
