Fox is still in the game.

Exactly, if Fox was involved they would have pulled him. I swear people dont think sometimes

Or they could be waiting until the game is over.

If a trade is done or pretty close to being done, they pull the guy during the game so he doesnt get hurt.

The buzz around the office is that Jackson was pulled from a start today for Daytona...

I don't like the sound of that

Oh god no

The shine has come off Jackson a little bit, no? He hasn't been all that impressive at AA this season. Solid, yes, but I don't think we're talking about a future MLB ace here.

I have a feeling this deal has to do with Lilly's injury. Maybe they know it's worse than they thought and now they want to put Marshall back in the rotation and have Grabow be our LOOGY.

How will he be a loogy though when he's better against righties? We acquired the wrong left-handed reliever.

Grabow in his career has been better vs leftys

Not really, he's fairly mediocre against both.

The last 3 years hes held leftys to a 652 OPS against, thats better than mediocre

You said career. He's pretty even for both.

Unless they don't have a short bench and the guy is the only backup catcher.

Regardless of whether or not he can be an ace, he's one of the few valuable trade chips this team has and should not be wasted on Loogys.

This is why nobody on this board is "qualified" to be a GM of a professional baseball team. Right or wrong, people get attach to certain prospects and when that said prospect name is used in trade talks, people goes nuts. You have to have a certain detachment when you are a GM. I would hate to lose Jackson, but he is not one I would lose sleep over.

You are right I did say career, I still think he can be useful, and in my opinion it helps our pen if it means Marshall starts pitching to more than 1 batter a game. It also means Shark/Atkins are not in the pen, and hopefully pushes Heilman to only pitch in blowouts as we would have Guz, Marshall, Marmol, Grabow, and Gregg at the backend.

I expect this trade to be something like this:

Grabow & Gorzelanny

for

Ascanio, Atkins, Berg, and Waddell

Man, are you going to be disappointed.

I think you're right - Atkins is pitching. Looking at the 40-man roster, I would think Hendry would try to use as many of those guys as trading chips as possible. It sounds more like a Jay Jackson has to be the headliner with a few spare parts included as well. Too bad - I'm not sure how Jackson will turn out, but Gorzelanny is getting old to be a "keep your fingers crossed" kind of guy and Grabow is not a top tier loogy.

I wouldn't label Jackson as untouchable, but you don't waste him in a trade for a couple of mediocre left-handers.

You use your top prospects to acquire better major league talent then. I don't see how Grabow could be considered a really good upgrade for us.

This isn't a logical post.

Hendry is the one who is too attached to finding a LH reliever.

what!?

if the trade looks lopsided, folks are free to criticize it. i don't see anyone here talking about how they won't be able to go have drinks with these guys anymore because they are gone.

If you look at what it took to get George Sherrill, it was a Hak-Ju Lee/Ryan Flaherty type infielder and a Jay Jackson type pitcher. If we give Jackson away for Grabow & Gorzelanny when we could have had Sherrill for the same price... I would have preferred to have Sherrill.

Given that Gorzelanny has had major-league success before and has had a much better year at AAA than Jackson has in AA, I think he has similar value to Jackson.

I know Jackson would be under Cubs' control for longer, and that's a factor, but Gorzo would still be here through 2012.

Everyone on this board freaked out about trading Sean Gallagher last year. How has that worked out so far? Jay Jackson isn't nearly as highly regarded as Gallagher was. Like someone said earlier, Hendry hasn't exactly given away Jeff Bagwell or John Smoltz in his trades, so I'm not all that worried about it.

I don't think that is true at all. Look at ages relative to the level they play at. Look at past performance. Look at repertoire of pitches. Look at peripheral statistics.

We got Rich Harden last year. Jackson might be higher regarded than Gallagher. People didn't freak out about losing Gallagher.
