Two bad pitchers. Do not want.

They arent awful. Gorzelanny has been good in 2007 and 2009, just horrible in 2008. Grabow has pretty good three year splits against LHB and is going to be Type A

Grabow's numbers are being propped up by a 2008 where had some BABIP magic going for him.

Gorzelanny can't strike anybody out and has been walking too many guys for two seasons now. His numbers look pretty at AAA for a lot of reasons, not the least of which an unusually high number of unearned runs.

He has a 2.82 FIP this season in the majors and has a 2.87 FIP in AAA this season.

I'm kind of intrigued by Gorzo. Still only 27, and I think his high workload was a huge reason for his problems last year.

He's pitching really well at AAA this year. Given his pedigree, he's an interesting acquisition.

We certainly should be buying low. If we don't give up too much, I like this.

I think the reason why the Cubs are asking for Gorzo and Grabow is in part they don't know, don't expect to get anything from Ryan.

dempster?

I think he means BJ.

Yeah, BJ.

I have a feeling this deal has to do with Lilly's injury. Maybe they know it's worse than they thought and now they want to put Marshall back in the rotation and have Grabow be our LOOGY.

His FIP in the majors is in 8.2 innings. The FIP looks a better in the minors, but I still see a ton of red flags in the peripherals of those 87 innings.

How will he be a loogy though when he's better against righties? We acquired the wrong left-handed reliever.

Grabow in his career has been better vs leftys

I suppose that as long as we dont give up too much, this will be an OK deal, especially if Gorzalanny can someone get back to his 2007 form. Big if, I know, but still. As long as Jackson, Carpenter, Lee, Castro, Cashner and Vitters are nowhere near this trade.

What exactly does Grabow fulfill for our bullpen? Why even give up any prospects for this guy? This is horrible

Don't we still have Sean Marshall? And if I'm not mistaken he's done a great job out of the bullpen. Why a lefty reliever and not a position player before the deadline. Why? Why? #-o

I agree on all parts. And I believe none of the prospects you mention will be a part of the trade.

That's true but he's been significantly better against righties this year. I don't know, I really don't like John Grabow but that's just me.

He's for a team like Philly so that Marshall can face the heart of their order one time through the lineup and Grabow if they come around again.

My guess is that Marshall would start pitching more full innings and Grabow would be more of the LOOGY who might only face 1-2 batters.

It's an upgrade for the Cubs in matching up with certain clubs but it's also more of a luxury than a need so they hopefully didn't spend very much for him.

I'm amazed that people criticize Hendry for this deal without knowing the players involved. How about waiting to see who gets sent to the Pirates before we start the bashing.

What are all those red flags?

He's walking a few too many guys, but he's striking out almost a batter per inning and he's only given up 3 homers in 87 innings. I don't think that qualifies as a "ton" of red flags.

Him being Type A is a BAD thing. Type B would be better.

Grabow will be eligible for $2.3 million in arbitration. He would take that.

Exactly CCP. Also, Grabow is an upgrade over Shark/Atkins down there. As long as we dont give up anyone in our top 10, Id be ok with the deal. Him being a Type A doesnt hut either.

Not really, he's fairly mediocre against both.
