Cubs Trade Ascanio, Hart & Harrison for Grabow & Gorzelanny

After their game against the Houston Astros today, the Cubs are expected to announce they have acquired left-handed reliever John Grabow from the Pittsburgh Pirates.

 

Grabow, 30, will complement lefty Sean Marshall in the bullpen. Grabow is 3-0 with a 3.42 ERA in 47 1/3 innings. He has 16 holds in 45 games. Left-handed batters are hitting .275 and righties are hitting .234 off Grabow, who is eligible for free agency after the season.

Dejan is reporting that a trade sending John Grabow and Tom Gorzelanny to the Cubs is nearly complete. There are no further details, but I would hope to receive a pretty nice return. Grabow will likely end up as a Type A free agent this offseason, which could potentially net a valuable draft pick for the Pirates. Gorzelanny has pitched pretty well in Triple-A this season, and I still see him as a piece in the future rotation. Hopefully, Neal Huntington has some more tricks up his sleeve.

The shine has come off Jackson a little bit, no? He hasn't been all that impressive at AA this season. Solid, yes, but I don't think we're talking about a future MLB ace here.

 

Jackson is in his first full time season putting up strong numbers at AA and projecting as a 2-3 starters in the big leagues. You trade that for Grabow and Gorzellany?
