Everyone on this board freaked out about trading Sean Gallagher last year. How has that worked out so far? Jay Jackson isn't nearly as highly regarded as Gallagher was. Like someone said earlier, Hendry hasn't exactly given away Jeff Bagwell or John Smoltz in his trades, so I'm not all that worried about it.

Jackson seems to have a better fastball than Gallagher. I always thought that Gallagher was performing better than his stuff, but you ride the wave as long as you can. We are doing that right now with Randy Wells.

If you look at what it took to get George Sherrill, it was a Hak-Ju Lee/Ryan Flaherty type infielder and a Jay Jackson type pitcher. If we give Jackson away for Grabow & Gorzelanny when we could have had Sherrill for the same price... I would have preferred to have Sherrill.

Well yeah, of course. But if we spin Jackson for Teahen, then that makes a little more sense. I still wouldn't like it all that much but that's better than including Jackson in a deal for Grabow and Gorz.

This is why nobody on this board is "qualified" to be a GM of a professional baseball team. Right or wrong, people get attach to certain prospects and when that said prospect name is used in trade talks, people goes nuts. You have to have a certain detachment when you are a GM. I would hate to lose Jackson, but he is not one I would lose sleep over.

I wouldn't label Jackson as untouchable, but you don't waste him in a trade for a couple of mediocre left-handers.

Given that Gorzelanny has had major-league success before and has had a much better year at AAA than Jackson has in AA, I think he has similar value to Jackson.

I think that would hold true if Gorzo hadn't followed his success with an absolute disaster of a season last year. To me, that lowers his stock a little.

That said, his (Gorzo's) minor league numbers would lead one to believe he could have more success at the major league level.

This board was almost unanimous in it's support for the Harden deal.

Yeah, considering the return, I don't recall anyone going berserk about giving up Gallagher in that deal.

what!?

if the trade looks lopsided, folks are free to criticize it. i don't see anyone here talking about how they won't be able to go have drinks with these guys anymore because they are gone.

So be it, but we haven't officially seen names (alledgely one pitcher was pull from a start) associated with this trade. If trading Jackson for Grabow and letting Grabow leave after the season and picking up a couple of draft picks then it would be worth the trade.

Harden >>>>>>>>Grabow

When healthy, Harden is an ace. John Grabow is a situational left handed reliever, and Tom Gorzalanny lies somewhere between Sean Marshall and Kevin hart.

Logan, what were the exact rumors?

No specific rumors, just that we found out that Jackson was getting pulled form his start for Daytona for unknown reasons. Combine that with this trade talk and we're putting two and two together, but anything can happen, it could just be coincidence. I'm just passing along the info

Are you saying Grabow & Teahen to the Cubs & Gorzelanny, Jackson and others to the Royals and Pirates?

If so, I could see that as a decent argument. Because Sherrill <<< Grabow, Teahen, and Hak-Ju Lee or Ryan Flaherty.

I definitely agree that it lowers his stock. I think he was heavily abused in 2007 and that led to his issues last season (fastball velo was way, way down). It seems like his arm is more lively this season, so it's possible he's past some of those issues.

Hendry doesn't have that problem. How else would we have stole Juan Pierre?

What is the point of Teahen?

Left-handed Mark DeRosa.

Who doesn't play 2B?

He's played 2 games at 2nd this season. He's ready.

Teahen's ability to play 2B adequately is in question though. However, he would be a much better insurance policy offensively at 3B than Fontenot, Miles, and Baker and better defensively than Fox.

We still don't know what the Pirates will get back in this deal, but it ought to be something decent.

I dont like the whole something decent thing. Id give them 3 of Mitch Atkins, Darwin Barney, Tyler Colvin, Sam Fuld, Chris Robinson, JR Mathes, Marquez Smith, Rebel Ridling, Blake Lalli, Robinson Chrinos, Hung Wen Chen, and of course Aaron Miles for those 2.

In 08 Tom Gorzelanny had shoulder, back and finger problems. Might have something to do with him tanking . Just a hunch.

He gave a lefty reliever, prolly at best a #2 starter, and already journeyman starting pitcher. All in all not a total crapfest of a deal. Pretty bad, prolly he worse deal---legitimately---but not one that push the Cubs back all that much.

A bad deal in that we could have used those pieces to get something of value though.

Sadly I doubt Hendry thinks this. Juan had the most hits that year in the National League. I doubt Jim even knows he led the free world in outs.

Absolutely. At this point I look at that deal as simply being Nolasco for Pierre. Pinto stinks and is really a lefty reliever, and Mitre is a journeyman pithcer. Bad deal all around, but we don't know what we could have gotten for Mitre/Pinto and seeing as neither were all that highly rated, I doubt we could have gotten much for either.

Aren't we trading for a lefty reliever now?
