The only reason I'd even want a 2nd lefty would be for a playoff series with the Phillies.

BJ Ryan. Id rather take my chances with him, then trade something for John Grabow.

How has Ryan been doing? Has he played for a Cubs minor league team yet?

Ive got a feeling Im going to be pissed off around 3pm Friday

You mean when we get John Grabow and Jack Wilson for Jay Jackson, Chris Carpenter, and Starlin Castro?

Wouldn't doubt that move, I would prefer something more like Castro, Ascanio/Hart, and Josh Harrison for Duke/Maholm and Sanchez. I think that's a fairly reasonable deal for both sides.

If I'm Hendry Castro is untouchable, unless the Cubs are getting Haren back.

He pitches for Iowa tonight.

Screw Grabow. I think if we can get Ryan to at least be decent and throw him into the mix, we'll have a pretty solid pen.

We already have a solid pen.

We need someone to go twitter about this deal, and say that it's a done deal, and throw some names out there....so Hendry gets all nervous and calls it off.

I'd like for the Cubs to have some BP arms that can counter all those potent LH Phillie hitters should we get to the post season and face them. That team's offense just keeps coming and coming. Who do we have that fits that bill?

Sean Marshall, Angel Guzman, and Carlos Marmol....Maybe even BJ Ryan.

Can someone explain to me why anyone would prefer Grabow over Beimel?

He strikes out more guys. That's it. Don't worry that he walks more and is more prone to the longball.

Rockies Interested In Hendrickson, Downs

By Tim Dierkes [July 30 at 11:00am CST]

Troy E. Renck of the Denver Post wrote earlier today that the Rockies "increased their pursuit" of Orioles southpaw Mark Hendrickson (.253/.303/.422 against lefties this year). Renck confirms that the Rox balked at the asking price - Eric Young, Jr. - for John Grabow and Joe Beimel. By the way, in case you missed it, Renck notes that the Rockies signed 43 year-old righty Mike Timlin to a minor league deal.

Do we even have an equivelent to Young, and if so, I really hope Hendry wouldnt trade him for a middle of the pack loogy.

The Royals would like to move the contract of lefty Ron Mahay. He's got about $1.5MM left.

Not that I want us to focus on a LOOGY, but how bout bringing back Mahay? Decent numbers against lefties. Make the Royals pick up half his salary.

.275 baa leftys OPS of 760 and a whip near 1.8 overall. NO THANK YOU. Why is it so damn hard to find a lefty reliever that can throw freaking strikes. Im guessing to answer my own question, is most leftys who throw strikes are starters in the Majors.

11:58am: ESPN's Jayson Stark says the Cubs are "strictly mining the lefthanded reliever market" and not looking for a bat.

UGH...

Has any General Manager ever been so obsessed with getting players to fill a very specific need, regardless of whether those players are good or not? I'm tired of this organization fixating on certain areas to the point of acquiring below average and/or overpaid players just to fill them.

In other words, please don't trade for Grabow or any other mediocre reliever. Either make a "good" move or no move at all.

It probably happens all the time, it's just that all of us are only focused on the Cubs and Hendry. (It could be worse, right now the Yankees are looking at Corey Patterson)
