24 RBI

Yeah, the offense has been bad this year. RBI totals are more a reflection of that than individual performance.

sarcasm, i thought you guys would get it

Ah, sorry. It's late and I'm tired.

Eh not really. the Cubs have been lacking top end RBI guys for quite some time. Two big run producers they don't have this year are Edmonds and DeRosa. And with Ramirez out, forget it.

Not really how? I mean, what you just said pretty much confirms what Dew said.

The Cubs' team OBP this year is .321. Last year it was .354.

This year, Lee has been a better hitter than last year and yet is on pace for right around the same number of RBIs as last year. Soto has slugged .600 the past month and only has 12 RBIs in that period - while Soriano has slugged .400 points worse yet has 6 RBIs in that period. Soriano has been one of the worst offensive players on the team this year, yet has the second most RBIs behind only Lee.

If RBIs can be used to evaluate individual success, why does the guy with the second worst OPS in the starting lineup have the second most RBIs?

Good to see Fukudome had a great July-- I'm one of the few people here who actually thinks he's capable of being a great player. This month: .321 AVG / .408 OBP / .560 SLG... His line on the season is .274 / .386 / .449 ... That makes an .835 OPS on top of damn fine defense. Its hard to complain about a lead off hitter with a .386 OBP (only .009 lower than Ichiro's, by the way.)

I've held out hope he'd rebound as well. Just out of curiosity, because I can't seem to find it, what have been his LD% and babip on a month by month? I'd assume fred might have these, if they're not indexed somewhere. Just hoping this warming up is a sustainable trend, not due to some incredible good luck.

edit: found babip... and March/April and June highly look like the abberations, and this month was inline with last year.

May .327

June .233

Why don't we hear the "FU-KU-DO-ME" chants anymore?

Fukudome has just been quietly good lately, kinda like how Scottie Pippen had quiet 30 point games. Can you think of a defining Fukudome moment this year? I can't.

And thats all good. Im OK with Fuku being quietly good and Lee, Ramirez, and good Soriano having the defining moments.

Ok, wise ass, I'm well aware of that salary isn't a stat. But don't give me this track record crap when it's beyond obvious that Fukudome is just terrible. Nothing at all has changed with him from last year. Furthermore, Bradley has put up his numbers up when he's been in an atmosphere where the fans and media don't give a rats ass (Can you stay with me now? Meaning no pressure) like we do here.

And Soriano is just a bad all around baseball player who is declining. Have you noticed all of the injuries he's had here as well? I've looked at the stats and yes, there is not one outfield that is as piss poor in all facets of the game. (That would be offense and defense).

I'm glad I read the whole thread before posting. I think this is the most appropriate place to quote to throw my opinion in, as opposed to hailing Todd Hollandsworth the next God.

First, the salaries you quotes are incorrect. Kosuke is making $7M, Bradley $12.5M and Soriano $17M.

Second, track record obviously does matter, as players have proven to be “second half” players, or fast starters. I’m not saying that our outfield is either, but it’s ludicrous to think that a players average performance won’t balance himself out. It’s the law of averages.

Third, Soriano is not a “bad all around player”. He has five seasons of 30 or more steals, and four of those seasons he mashed 30 homers. Players in the 30/30 club found here. Players in the 40/40 club: Canseco, Rodriguez, Bonds and Soriano. If he’s not on the juice, he’s the only legit one to be in that exclusive club, which is pretty impressive.

Fourth, fantastic month of July for all three.
