I don't know if I want to laugh or cry when I read a post about the outfield "coming around." The season is half over! It's July 1! If it happens, all the better, but if you ask me, the season starts in early April and my "eternal" optimism is running on empty, especially with this outfield.

That's really clever.

btw, you sure do complain a lot.

Are you Richard Simmons or something? Have you ever thought that maybe people are complaining a lot because there is a lot to complain about with this team?

I thought espn used to have a feature where you could find splits for all OF combined, but I can't find it. They are 11th among NL LF, 6th among NL CF, and 9th among NL RF. Of the teams that rank lower at spots, San Diego, Washington, Arizona and the Mets each have a top 1 or 2 ranking in the OF. It looks to me like Atlanta is likely worst, STL is pretty low, but the Cubs might be the bottom 5 or so, since they are weak in so many spots and not strong in any.

Not defending him....but I just realized Fuku still has a .377 OBP...best currently on our team and would lead the Cardinals but for Pujols....that really surprised me.

It's "still" .377 only because it started out so high. He was at .491 halfway through April, and .461 by the end of that month. He had a .415 OBP in May which kept his total at .439. But his June OBP was just .278. His season total is still relatively high, but he's not still getting on base. He's really sucked again (531 OPS in June).

Maybe this will help Kosuke. Sasaki helped him this past offseason and he came back with a terrific start to the year.

Kosuke Fukudome, mired in a deep slump, will work with hitting coach Kyosuke Sasaki in mid-July when the Cubs are in Philadelphia.

Until then, the Cubs hope Fukudome rights the ship on his own. Sasaki was Fukudome's coach with the Chunichi Dragons. Fukudome is batting .154 with 20 strikeouts in 18 June games. "I don't know what to do," manager Lou Piniella said. "I can write his name in the lineup, give him an opportunity to play. I can sit him. That's an option, too." Piniella said he was "all for" Sasaki's visit: "We can bring in the whole Japanese hitting academy if it'll help him hit. It doesn't matter to me."

Why does it have to be in Philly in mid-July?

I have no idea. Maybe that's the time that he'll be in the US? I think he still lives in Japan and will visit then or something.

Make Fukudome spring for the flight change fee and be done with it.

I'd be all for that.

I don't think the OF is that bad. Sure they havent done much so far this year but looking at their career norms, they are sure to come back. You can't go by the amount of money a player makes and expect that production. Once the contract is signed, the fans should just consider the money gone and cheer on their players.

wait...what?

This is a valid point. Money does not make a difference at this point. Who cares how much money he makes. At this point the only options are for him to get better, get optioned or get traded.

well, money has something to do with whether or not he'll get traded.

I understand people being upset, but I don't think people need to create two different threads crying about how Hendry is ruining the Cubs.

"Sam Fuld plays with energy and he created a "spark". He needs to be starting tomorrow".

I agree, Todd.

Don't break your arm patting yourself on the back, there.

After reading some of the comments about Fuld after I suggested he play, you bet. Nice to hear a respected, ex big leaguer back it up as well.

Oh give me a break. The guy has floated around AAA opsing in the .700's for two or three years now. He's not that good. He had a good game. But since he's a "hustler" and a "gamer" (and, "White") he's suddenly the 'spark' on this team? Give me a break. I'm glad he had a good game, but let's not get carried away here.

YOU'RE QUOTING THIS IN THE [expletive] THREAD YOU [expletive] STARTED ABOUT HOW FUKUDOME SHOULD BE SENT TO THE MINORS AND THEN IN THE SAME [expletive] GAME THAT THE WHITE GUY DID SOMETHING HIT A DOUBLE AND A HOME RUN ARE YOU [expletive] KIDDING ME?

Fuld had a .358 OBP in AAA this year. That's more likely than not to go down as he faces better pitchers.

I liked the good game today, but I want to see more before I favor putting him at the top of the lineup.

So is Todd going to be the GM of your super team?

I just value his opinion far more than yours.
