  1. I'm glad I read the whole thread before posting. I think this is the most appropriate place to quote to throw my opinion in, as opposed to hailing Todd Hollandsworth the next God. First, the salaries you quotes are incorrect. Kosuke is making $7M, Bradley $12.5M and Soriano $17M. Second, track record obviously does matter, as players have proven to be “second half” players, or fast starters. I’m not saying that our outfield is either, but it’s ludicrous to think that a players average performance won’t balance himself out. It’s the law of averages. Third, Soriano is not a “bad all around player”. He has five seasons of 30 or more steals, and four of those seasons he mashed 30 homers. Players in the 30/30 club found here. Players in the 40/40 club: Canseco, Rodriguez, Bonds and Soriano. If he’s not on the juice, he’s the only legit one to be in that exclusive club, which is pretty impressive. Fourth, fantastic month of July for all three. 2. santana haren peavy francisco rodriguez pujols good pitching always beats good offense
  3. why is every single person at the pregame festivities ugly as sin? from hawk, to the dude with the ponytail whose daughter threw out the second first pitch, to the national anthem girl...this is piss poor
  4. i read the home run ball bounty was $1M, not $100M. http://x.go.com/cgi/x.pl?name=SEARCH_espn&srvc=sz&goto=http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/wire?section=mlb&id=2900713 how ridiculous would $100M be?
  5. Indeed. I'd rather they win the game. If we are ahead by quite a bit throw at him. The Braves managed to do both last night. It's not mutually exclusive. No reason to fire up the opposing team at their home park, and lets face it they won because Marquis couldn't pitch his way out of a paper bag last night. We should've won that game. Not to mention the fact that the home plate umpire was being a complete ass. lol yeah tschida really gave it to us last night. and why are we blaming everything on marquis? sure, he didn't pitch well...but we didn't do anything after the third inning. gotta produce a little somethin against the bullpen. and why are we saying we should have won last night? we didn't play well...the teams that play well win.
  6. 13-6 cobs i'd rather see them hit jones or rentaria in the first because they're hitting us so hard anyway, might as well make it sting while they get one base... plus, one free base is better than giving up a bomb...
  7. so are we all taking pictures of our feet and flooding len and bob's inbox or what?
  8. it looked pretty right down the middle to me
  9. solid inning...i like when the cubs take the lead
  10. although i'd rather see a GIDP that scores a run than a K and then a GIDP by theriot
  11. value of a major league issued baseball can't be more than $10...i'd pay the 75 cents for that. There's no way that could be true...because you didn't buy it, so it's not a sales tax, and if its income, you don't report until next year. you couldn't ever put a value on that ball unless you auctioned it, at which point you're going to have the money to pay the taxes anyway. lots of good ideas in this thread about how to ruin BBonds' trip to chicago. maybe he'll catch wind of this board and just stay home.
  12. wouldn't the fame of destroying the ball generate more publicity and perhaps revenue than selling it? i mean, you'd go down in history as the guy who has the most important relic from the single most revered record in sports and you destroy it. also, it should be noted that there's not a 50% chance he breaks it at wrigley, but a 50% chance that he has broken it by the time he leaves wrigley.
  13. congrats! what's your job? Similar to what I'm doing now, yet different. It's in hedge fund administration. Accounting stuff. I'm putting my English Literature degree to great use! haha awesome. congrats again!
