First, the salaries you quotes are incorrect. Kosuke is making $7M, Bradley $12.5M and Soriano $17M. Second, track record obviously does matter, as players have proven to be “second half” players, or fast starters. I’m not saying that our outfield is either, but it’s ludicrous to think that a players average performance won’t balance himself out. It’s the law of averages. Third, Soriano is not a “bad all around player”. He has five seasons of 30 or more steals, and four of those seasons he mashed 30 homers. Players in the 30/30 club found here. Players in the 40/40 club: Canseco, Rodriguez, Bonds and Soriano. If he’s not on the juice, he’s the only legit one to be in that exclusive club, which is pretty impressive.
