Does this win get us in?

The RPI is really ugly at 72 coming into today. Still think they'd need to creep into the top 50 to be "safe". That involves not losing out, for sure. Hold serve at home, and even if they lose at Purdue, OSU and Michigan, they go 12-6 in conference, sweep Wisconsin, and likely finish top 50.

according to yetanotherbasketballblog.com the NCAA doesn't look at individual teams RPI, but look to see how teams have done against the top 50 and top 100. Right now they are 4-4 against the top 50 and two more wins in the Big Ten will help that record. I think as long as we don't lose out we should be fine and win a game in the BTT we should be fine.

Wow what a win for Illinois. Not sure why Wisconsin went into desperation mode down 4 with over 1:30 to play.

Have to admit that I'm a total idiot for the McCamey discussion last Thursday. Then he plays like an absolute beast against MSU and Wisconsin. Great timing on my part.

i love it when i look good, which isn't often.

I really wish I could put my finger on what annoys me so much about Purdue basketball (besides Kramer, who everyone hates). It probably stems from last season when Purdue and Notre Dame were both preseason top 10 and I was looking forward to following both all year...and then the Irish were mediocre, and basically every time I saw Purdue was a walking reminder of what my team was also projected to be doing, and had fallen far short of doing.

But damn, they just annoy me. It's ineffable.

My smack talking and gloating through texts probably don't help your loathing but they make me feel good.

Also, I had said that if this team started playing typical defense of a Weber team, they'd be really good? Tonight, they were really good for 25 minutes and outscored Wisconsin in Madison by 18 in those 25 minutes.

Now if only they can start better...

When this team brings it, it as good or better than any Big Ten team perhaps, they're starting to figure that out.

It's an amazing difference when you have offensive skill at more than 2 spots. I have faith that Weber will get these guys to continue to play better defense as the season finishes, and if he does, there's no reason they don't get into the tourney and have a decent shot at the second weekend.

Texas Tech knocks off Oklahoma, and now 2 games separate 2nd and 9th place in the Big 12.

18 points to 3 points. How a team can get up so big and then blow it I never have understood. I got to say I told my brother on the phone that I didn't have a good feeling even when we were up 16. We'll see if Purdue can hold on like that did at Illinois.

I'd just like to say this to all the Illinois doubters and naysayers who said Weber can't coach, we're going to miss the tourney, blah, blah, blah:

Too bad the schedule is freaking relentless. Ohio State next, then at Purdue.

That's rough, but you gotta figure going into that 4 game stretch you would take 2-2. Everyone has to play these teams at some point...luckily it looks like they are playing well when getting to this point in the schedule

Does this win get us in?

i think we need one more big ten win and then a win in the btt, or two big ten wins. they can't keep us out at 11-7, i don't recall it happening, but that could be me.

11 wins usually gets you in, but I seem to think Penn St. had 11 last year and missed out. That Utah game is gonna haunt us.

Penn St. was 10-8 last year. Agreed on that [expletive] Utah loss.

I'm not sold on a tournament bid just yet, but the last two games have been extremely encouraging. Those non-conference losses still sting.

I think Illinois gets in. In fact I think Northwestern will have a nice little run to finish the season ahead of Minnesota and get in too.

PU, MSU, OSU, ILL, WIS, NW will represent the Big Ten

The 2nd half defense was incredible last night. Great help defense every time there was penetration. Getting up and challenging the shooter at the perimeter, just a great vintage Illinois defensive effort. Wisconsin scored 3 points from the 9:57 mark til a late game 3 pointer with 17 seconds. This still amazes me.

part of that was because wisconsin was chucking like there was no tomorrow, but the illini perimeter defense definitely improved last night, too.

and I believe those 3 pts were the Bohannan 3 after two Illini dove after a loose ball.

For fun, a blind player analysis, courtesy of John Gasaway:

           ORtg %Poss %Shots ARate TORate 2FG% 3FG%
Player A 110.3 26.2 22.5 37.5 21.5 55.6 37.8
Player B 111.4 26.7 23.0 34.9 24.9 50.3 37.3

Any guesses? :) (TORate is turnover rate, so a lower # is better, ARate = assist rate, %Shots mean % of team shots taken, %Poss means % of team's possessions used by that player, and ORtg is the overall offensive rating).

Correct. Wall does get to the line more and shoot FTs better, but McCamey compares favorably to any player not named Evan Turner right now.

I really hope Iowa beats NW tonight, and that loss keeps NW out of the tournament. Just out of spite for NW ruining our perfect record in football this year.

There are some lines that look crazy out there today(so they're probably exactly right). Northwestern is only a 3 point favorite at Iowa City. Duke is only a 5.5 point favorite at UNC.
