Bryant and some of the Boise pitchers to KC seems to make the most sense. Jeimer/Vogelbach to Daytona as well.

No need for Candelario to move up. I'd just put Bryant to Daytona if you want the both at 3B. Jeimer's only 19 and hasn't exactly mastered low A.

You think they'd consider a Bryant to Tennessee move?

No. Even Daytona would be extraordinary for this regime.

Almora, Vogelbach, Bryant in the 2-3-4 slots in Daytona's lineup and Johnson, Edwards, Black and Pineyro in the rotation would be the most exciting team the Cubs have had in years. And God forbid if Soler gets back somehow.

Has it been confirmed he hasn't died? I have not been able to find anything on him over the past few weeks.

I don't think there's much to find. IIRC, the reports were he'd see very little time in what's left of this minor league season, if any.

Scouts tend to do that.

As fun as this year has been on the farm, next year is going to be real exciting. We should have a good idea by the end of the season if all four of baez, almora, soler and bryant will be major leaguers, not to mention possibly seeing edwards or pierce johnson as high as AA if things go well.

i would say it's a disappointment if johnson and edwards don't spend at least part of the year in tennessee.

i'll add to your list, vizcaino supposedly coming back off his injury, blackburn and underwood presumably starting full season ball, and a lot of the college arms drafted this year will also be playing full season ball. i'd expect a couple of them to stand out as good starting prospects and a couple more to look like promising bullpen arms.

And there just isn't much information out there on prospects rehabbing, even prospects with as much publicity as Soler.

@sahadevsharma

Apparently McLeod said expect some promotions (not to majors) in next 7-10 days. Almora (if healthy), Bryant & Vogelbach are candidates, IMO

ESPN Chicago story made it sound like Baez to AAA was a possibility as well.

That seemed like Jesse Rodgers opinion, but I guess they've surprised with Baez before. This one would be more of a stretch, however. Tennessee is also in a better position for the playoffs than Iowa if I'm not mistaken.

Also, I expected those kind of results to the poll in that story, yet I'm still a little disappointed.

Yeah and Jesse Rogers doesn't seem to know how baseball works at all.

It amazes me they gave a hockey guy the Cubs beat. I like Jesse and he does great filling in on the air, but goodness he doesnt know much of anything about baseball.

Are we saying that Jesse Rogers is basically the Sam Cooke of sports writing?

I don't know what's sadder: the fact that you made this reference, or that you beat me to it.

Here you go:

@CarrieMuskat: Jorge Soler will be examined Monday in Chicago to determine progress. He's candidate for AFL. #Cubs

@CSNMooney: Soler (stress fracture/tibia) will be examined Monday in Chicago to determine next step. Soler, Almora are AFL candidates.

Does examine mean cast is off, dr. Says bone is healed? Maybe couple weeks in AZ and get into some games the last week and a half. Good news is that even though Soler has missed 6 weeks....he's only missed like 4 games for Daytona.

I'm disappointed in my self for laughing out loud after reading this.

Hendricks made this morning's BP Monday Morning Ten Pack

Kyle Hendricks, RHP, Cubs (Triple-A Iowa)

After posting a 1.85 ERA in 21 Double-A starts, Hendricks impressed in his Triple-A debut last week by tossing seven innings of one-run ball. An eighth-round pick out of Dartmouth in 2011, Hendricks was acquired from Texas last summer as part of the Cubs’ haul for Ryan Dempster. While the 23-year-old righty lacks big stuff, he’s an extreme strike thrower and commands a deep arsenal that includes four- and two-seam fastballs, a cutter, slider, curve, and change. He keeps hitters off balance by varying his fastball velocity, often throwing it anywhere between 86-94 mph and sitting around 88-90. His stuff doesn’t have plus movement, but the command and deception––particularly with his slow mid-70s changeup––give him a chance for success. Hendricks likely isn’t more than a no. 4 or 5 starter––and that’s probably his ceiling––but the pitchability should enable a big-league future. –Jason Cole

Hendricks can hit 94? Jason Cole is the writer for LoneStarDugout, so he's more familiar than most, when it comes to Hendricks.

http://www.baseballamerica.com/minors/prospect-notebook-familiar-feeling-for-christian-villanueva/

Christian Villanueva, 3b, Cubs: The more things change, the more they stay the same. One of the reasons the Rangers deemed Villanueva expendable a year ago was because he was behind Mike Olt on the depth chart, so they shipped him to the Cubs in the Ryan Dempster trade. Fast forward a year and Villanueva, playing for Double-A Tennessee, is once again stuck behind Olt, who’s at Triple-A Iowa after coming to the Cubs in last month’s Matt Garza deal. Both of the former Rangers farmhands homered on Monday, but we’ll put the spotlight on Villanueva this time.

Villanueva went 2-for-3 with the homer, a double and a walk on Monday, upping his season line to .263/.315/.462 after 114 games with the Smokies. He’s had his ups and downs, beginning with a rough April in which he hit just .205, but he’s held his own as a player who’s young (22) for the Southern League, where the median age for players on Opening Day rosters was 24.6. He’s been guilty of being too pull-happy at times, like many young players, but his line-drive power has helped him lead the SL in doubles (32) and extra-base hits (50). Whether he’ll hit the home runs expected of a big league third baseman remains a question, but does have 16 long balls this year, one off his career-high of 17 set in low Class A in 2010. We should note that Tennessee’s park does favor hitters more than most SL venues, as it’s generally a pitching-friendly league, and Villanueva’s homer yesterday did come at home. However, 10 of his 16 on the season have been hit on the road, and he’s slugging .507 in road games compared to .413 at home.
