Juan "groundout to second" Pierre wants out

Juan Pierre has requested a trade from the Dodgers.

"I understand the situation, and if they hadn't signed Manny, it would have been a surprise," said Pierre. "I'm not bitter about it. I totally get it, you know what I mean? But I want to play. So they gave us permission to talk to teams and try to find a situation that can work out for everybody, and that's all I can ask for." It's going to be really, really tough to move him in this economy. The Dodgers would probably have to pick up almost all of the $28.5 million remaining on the five-year, $44 million deal he signed three years ago.

Haha, we could use a pinch runner as long as the Dodgers pick up 100% of his contract and we only have to give them a bag of baseballs.

Nah, nevermind. I don't want to waste the 40 man roster spot on him.

Boy, the Dodgers better hire some extra staff to handle the flood of calls about to come in.

More like they better have some room in their stomachs for the salary they'll have to eat to move him. I wouldnt be surprised at all if some teams showed interest. The man can still run like Hayes, but he hits like Howry.

The White Sox could be a decent fit. With all of the aging, slow injury prone power bats they have, an aging sppedster could fit the bill, especially if he can play CF and they finally give up on White Corey Patterson aka Brian Anderson.

Any other year, I could see Kenny doing something that stupid, but since they've publicly stated they're cutting payroll and Pierre can't play CF anymore they're likely out.

I'm about to make a true statement that will change each of your lives:

Juan Pierre is a worse version of Joey Gathright.

Think about that.

I dont know about that. Gathright hopefully has Pierres ceiling, the differende being Juans long since hit it, and has flopped back to the ground.

They're both poor mens Willie McGee anyway.

What are the other contenders for worst contract handed out this millennium? Zito and who else?

Zito and Pierre are the only two I can remember where basically everyone except for the teams signing them knew the deal would be a complete disaster from the word go.

Gary Matthews Jr., Vernon Wells, Eric Byrnes, and Carlos Silva are pretty terrible contracts.

And the Chris Carpenter extension was boneheaded as well, though not because of the years or money.

The guys on XM radio this afternoon (can't remember which show - think it was Kennedy) absolutely slaughtered Juan Pierre's defensive ability. Was talking about how it didn't take long for L.A. to realize that JP was killing them in the OF with his arm.

I chuckled.

There are probably bat boys with better arms.

I still think Pierre's contract is the second worst in LA, maybe even third if Jason Schmidt never makes it back to the mound. The worst is Andruw Jones.

i think those are worse in reality, but pierre's is the worst simply because just about everybody with any common sense (i.e. not ned coletti) knew it was a terrible idea at the time. some people actually liked the jones and schmidt deals.
