I'd imagine the only people impatient about any of this are news starved message board baseball fans. Marquis certainly has no say in the matter. He'll show up somewhere in March to throw a baseball. Whether that's the Cubs spring training facility or the Rockies, won't make a lot of difference to him I'd imagine. His crap from Chicago will be boxed up and mailed somewhere. Anything he didn't already see enough writing on the wall to grab before he left at the end of '08.

It's really still the holiday period or just getting past it. If Milton Bradley has agreed to a deal in principle, he isn't sweating a thing.

We'll find out soon, just not soon enough for most of us ;o)

I'm going to do this even though it's against my better judgment..

When I was young my mother would tell me: "Never argue with unreasonable people; because you can't reason with them". But here I go anyways.

A freak accident should be defined as: An accident that occurs when you would otherwise NOT expect one to occur.

1. D. Lee breaking his wrist: No way anyone would not expect that to happen after his hand, wrist were hit like they were. Take 100 people in the exact same situation and probably 80% it would have resulted in a break.

2. Any pitcher who has arm issues: The arm issue would be a result of the violent movement of the arm when throwing a baseball (arm should include elbow, shoulder and so on).

3. Mark Prior taking a line drive to the elbow; of course he got hurt, nothing freaky about that. The fact he got hit could be called a "freak" thing because players don't often get hit with baseballs when on defense. However his being injured once hit; nothing freaky about that. Anytime someone is hit with a hard object going over 100mph I would have to say an accident is expected.

4. A player swinging a bat; you can't break down every injury that could be expected; but side (oblique’s), back, wrists, fingers, thumbs and possibly hips could become injured during this process. Nothing freaky about that, because one could reasonably expect it to happen.

THE LIST GOES ON.....

I would have to say anyone tearing an ACL when being held back is not something you would reasonably (keyword) expect to happen. Take 100 people in the exact same situation and a LOT less than 80% would end in an ACL tear. That to me makes it a freak accident.

Sammy Sosa sneezing and hurting his back (out 30 days); to me that is a freak accident; you just don't NORMALLY expect someone to miss 30 days because of a sneeze.

The sneeze analogy perfectly illustrates what I've been trying to explain. People sneeze all the darn time, and nothing comes of it.

Just like as dextermorgan has explained, professional baseball players step awkwardly on their leg all the darn time, and nothing comes of it.

So if throwing your back out sneezing is a freak injury (since you've sneezed countless times with no injury occurring), then by the same logic, tearing your ACL stepping awkwardly is also a freak injury (since you've stepped awkwardly countless times with no injury occurring).

I think this deal will be announced today , along with the Marquis deal. These two deals have seemingly been done for a almost a week, Bradley was in the Cubs offices last week. I thought the delay was for the Holidays. I hope the new owner is in place by the convention , so hopefully Peavy will be done and we won't have to hear Hendry asked a thousand questions about Peavy ,which is the way it was last year with Roberts.

Any news on when this is going to actually get done and not on the definition of what a freak accident is?

Hopefully soon or right after the Marquis deal becomes offical. I think clearing his salary is holding up the Bradley signing.

I dont get whats holding it back. Last I heard, Marquis was out of town, but it's not like he has a NTC, or at least I hope he wouldnt. Why not just pack up his locker, ship it to Denver, and be done with it?

I imagine he has to pass some kind of physical.

If that's the case, I have a few ideas on how Bradley can safely get to the medical complex without suffering a career ending injury.

Some would prefer that you don't share those ideas with him.

If all of these rumors hold true, and we don't end up with Peavy, I'll be one of the people who wouldn't want that information shared.

According to Saint Petersburg Times in regards to the Rays:

Milton Bradley's expected signing with the Cubs this week should further define the free-agent market and may (finally) lead to movement as the Rays consider a group of corner OF/DH types topped by Bobby Abreu, Pat Burrell and Jason Giambi.
Posted

Now, however, Burrell has essentially agreed, and Milton Bradley is expected to agree to a deal with the Chicago Cubs in the next 24 hours. The Rays had pursued both Burrell and Bradley, with Bradley believed to be their top choice. But when it became clear that Bradley was going to wind up in Chicago, they quickly moved in Burrell's direction.

Hopefully it really gets done within 24 hours so we can move on to the next thing

Levine just broke in at 3PM on the Mac, Jurko and Harry show. Milton Bradley has signed a 3/30 with the Cubs.

Time to change the thread title. 8-)

In an offseason where only the elite really got what they were looking for, and there's all kinds of supply on the market, I'm a little surprised Bradley got 3/30. I would have thought he'd be under $10m and get only 2 guaranteed, given how injury prone and volatile he is. Oh well, at least his talent is worth it. Hopefully he lasts more than half a season.

Good signing along the lines of what I was expecting I was hoping it would be more in the 24-27 range but we didn't overpay. I just pray that he can play 110-125 games a season, is that too much to ask for? I would think the Marquis trade will be official tomorrow/Wednesday, and then maybe 1 or 2 more moves (how big I have no idea, but I think we will add some sort of SP and a bench bat).

I love the move to sign Bradley but unfortunately it came at the expense of weakening our offense to get this move done. I think Bradley is going to be huge for us. He is going to be the Fukudome we were expecting at RF.

If we can someway get Peavy now, I'll be happy and done with this offseason.

I think there's a good chance it will happen. Why else would we trade DeRosa for crap pitching prospects? I understand they had to move salary but I expected better than what we got from the Indians.

I just bothered to look at his career batting numbers. Nothing special. I'm not sure how he turned into one of the key OF available this offseason, but whatever. It is an improvement, I just don't think he's gonna be an impact guy. I hope I'm wrong.

I think we're a good loogy, right handed bench power and experienced fifth starter away from being done for the year. I know Marshall could be the fifth, but I really like what he provides out of the pen. Overall I like the deal and as much as I really loved Dero I think we can get similar production out of the Fontenot/Miles platoon.

Im getting flashbacks of Jaque Jones going hitless in his first 20 or 30 AB's and getting booed..God I hope that doesnt repeat with Bradley
