His OBP has been over .400 the last 2 years and it's at a .370 clip for his career.

And we all know the guy can flat out hit! I like the move. He and Z will be fun to watch. 8-)

All things considered, it appears the Cubs will be the favorites for their 3rd straight NLC crown.

Good move, I'm curious to hear what Hendry has to say about Bradley health reports and what test they did with him last month. Bradley pretty much gets the same contract that Raul Ibanez got last month.

I just bothered to look at his career batting numbers. Nothing special. I'm not sure how he turned into one of the key OF available this offseason, but whatever. It is an improvement, I just don't think he's gonna be an impact guy. I hope I'm wrong.

I agree. It seems he caught the Texas lightning in a bottle. He'll be fairly productive when he's healthy, but probably not nearly as good as he was last year.

Anyone else sick to their stomachs knowing that we now have approximately $70 million tied up in Fukudome & Bradley for the next 3 years? Due to contracts, our offense will remain nearly exactly the same for the next 3 years. It better be good again.

Im getting flashbacks of Jaque Jones going hitless in his first 20 or 30 AB's and getting booed..God I hope that doesnt repeat with Bradley

If that happens, this could turn into a trainwreck in a hurry...

I'm not too concerned about it. I really believe Fukudome can turn in a much better season this time around. If he flops again this year, I'll be concerned.

If there's something Hendry is good at, it's getting rid of bulky, bad contracts. This is the first year that money has been a concern with free agency, and that's only because ownership is up in the air. I'm not that concerned about those. Soriano is more painful to me, cuz it's for so much longer.

I'm just glad this is done. We needed something in the plus column. Seemed like all minuses so far.

I just pray that he can play 110-125 games a season, is that too much to ask for?

Not too much to ask for, but probably too much to expect. He's averaged 89.5 games per season the past 4 years, and 99.7 games since 2002. I think we'd have to be happy if he ends up playing 300 games for the Cubs.

When he plays, he's been a very solid contributor. Not amazing, but solid. His 2003, 2007 and 2008 rate stats were fantastic. There's a couple higher quality guys, but not a lot out there. And of course, from the Cubs standpoint, the key was he's a switch hitter.

At least it'll be entertaining.

I'd be fine with the lineup if we didn't get rid of DeRosa..Now it seems that theres a piece still missing even the Bradley signing..It's that middle infield im not happy with.

The offense could potentially change dramatically after 2010 with Lee and Ramirez likely both becoming free agents (if Ramirez does the expected and uses his out clause). I would agree that the rest of the core will stay the same unless either Fontenot or Theriot flops in which case the Cubs would likely try to find the money to upgrade one of those 2 spots. But if neither one of them flop dramatically, this should be a very good offense so there will be no problem taking the same offense into 2010.

Hmm What kind of options?

According to ESPN Radio's Bruce Levine, the Cubs signed Milton Bradley to a three-year, $30MM contract "with some options in the deal."

I'm guessing if he plays X number of games, or something along the lines.

Bradley is probably far more likely to have a Cubs career somewhere along the lines of Rondell White/Moises Alou than Jacque Jones. Jacque was a relatively weak hitter compared to those three.

The key is that at least the Cubs have some other quality bats. They are maintaining their status as a team of good but not great hitters, which, when couple with minimal holes, can lead to a lot of runs.

That would be a little nicer if we didn't have pay as much if he didn't play a certain amount

Likewise if he plays the whole season and is a stud I don't mind if there are some bonuses in there

He might get a vesting option for a 4th year, or could get a raise in salary if he plays say over 150 games or something like that.

No, it makes me more sick knowing we have more money tied up to Soriano.

Roto doesn't like the deal

ESPN reports that the Cubs and Milton Bradley have agreed to terms on a three-year, $30 million contract.

That was the expected amount, but it still looks like a pretty poor deal for the Cubs, especially with Pat Burrell signing for $16 million over two years on the same day. Bradley may or may not still be an above average defensive outfielder. What we can be relatively certain of is that he won't be a healthy one for long. Bradley has played in 130 games just once in his career. He's an underrated star when he's on the field, but he's not worth a $30 million commitment.

If it's 3/30 but the third year requires a games played vesting option, that's a pretty nice signing by Hendry.

I will gladly give him the salary jump or the 4th year if plays well and plays 150 games

Particulars aren't out yet, right? I wonder if it's 10 for each of 3 years, or maybe something like 8/10/12 or some other way to backload the contract?
