I find it hard to believe that cost is any factor in the decision to bring the fences in at Petco.

IIRC the Wrigley drainage/leveling/resodding project only cost a few million.

that was my thought, too, especially since the wrigley renovations would seem to be far more expensive and time-consuming.

Really? More expensive than dealing with permanent left field and right field bleachers, and not just one level, mind you.

I doubt they'd have to do much of anything to the structure itself.

right, it's not like they'd be moving fences back, needing to do something about seats. If they move fences in , say, 10-15 feet (I have no real idea), what really needs to be done other than moving the walls.

If you give an MLB owner another 10-15 feet of space where you can put extra seating, they're probably going to take advantage of that. I think they would probably alter the lower bleachers so they could add a few more rows, but the extra ticket sales would probably pay for that over time.

Your only going to have extra ticket sales if you are selling out games and then increase your ticket sales. I don't think they are or will be the next couple of years.

You're obviously underestimating the drawing power of the gritty Ryan Theriot.

Exactly. This was a 99 loss team with Peavy, Hoffman, Greene and Giles. They won't be needing extra seating in '09, that's for sure.

The local San Diego sports station is talking to Dave O'Brien (Atlanta) right now, but I'm not listening to it.

Haha. Not good at all. Personally, I don't want to listen to how close the Braves might be to working a deal.

They can do a couple things, one, leave the new space empty for a potential expansion later. Two, they can use that new space as an open space for people to walk around in, like they have in the outfield already. Three, make it a bar/restaurant or other potential revenue source.

Kaplan and the score have been rather quiet on the Peavy trade talks since they started.

I haven't heard a word from Kaplan either I have tried listening in over the last week or so on his show to see if he had anything and not a mention of the Cubs, one night he talked about college basketball the whole time, the other time his show wasn't on, and one time he didn't even bring up the Cubs. I don't really listen to the score so I wouldn't know what they are sayin. I just want this to get resoled either way Cubs or Braves but I am sick of it dragging on.

They had Rogers and Mazur talking about it on the Murph show today, but I haven't heard much else on the Score. Boers, who is a huge Peavy fan (they like to interview him when the Pads are in town and such), seemed to think that the rumors were a joke a few weeks ago and that the Cubs had no chance of getting him, so I'm guessing that is part of the reason you don't hear much talk of it on that show.

5:46pm: Manager Lou Piniella thinks the Peavy-Cubs rumors are "only talk." At least, he hasn't talked to Cubs GM Jim Hendry much about it. Piniella remains fixated on a lefthanded hitter.

4:31pm: Yahoo's Tim Brown has an update on the Jake Peavy trade talks, though it's not very exciting. A Padres exec says the team has options, but nothing is close. The Padres have not yet asked Peavy to approve a trade.

Interesting note from Brown - the Yankees pushed hard, while the Red Sox and Mets "inserted themselves" into the mix.

Brown notes that Peavy would probably want the fifth year of his contract guaranteed upon a trade. At that point it'd be a five-year, $81MM deal. How much worse off would a team be signing a solid free agent starter at a lower price, while preserving the farm system?

What a shock, our poster with the "anonymous source" is nowhere to be found today.

You know he has like 100 posts in like 5 years, right? I'm not saying I believe him, but he's rarely on here anyways and when he posts it's been late at night, so I'm not sure what your point is.

My point? Those who ignore history are condemned to repeat it.

I don't see anybody ignoring it. Most, including myself, are definately taking Donnie with a grain of salt. Prolly less.
