I'm not biting on the source guesses, and nothing more than "soon" as far as when the deal is finished. As I implied, I think Towers is just going to wait until he is certain he has the best deal possible from Hendry and then Jake Peavy will be a Cub.

I definately not falling for this. I've learned my lesson with the Brian Roberts saga. I want it to happen, make no mistake, I'm not going to get excited until I see Peavy holding up a Cubs hold jersey with Piniella and Hendry surrounds him at a press conference. Until then, I will remain neutral.

Well you can't really use the "we'll have plenty of prospects by the time he's ready" argument because that's not the only value Vitters has. He still has value through trades. If we trade him for peavy we're not just losing out on his potential major league services, we're losing the ability to trade him for something else.

 

I would definitely trade him for peavy though without even thinking about it.

Alright, I only got to talk with my source briefly today, nothing new as far as news goes. But I did get another confirmation that Peavy will NOT be going to the Braves.

 

End of "source news", my thoughts are that Towers is using the Braves as leverage to get the Cubs to include that one more player he wants to complete the deal. Maybe someone is leaking false information to the media that a deal with the Braves is iminent to put pressure on Hendry. So far it seems Hendry is standing pat and not caving to the pressure. Here's hoping Hendry has recognized the bluff and stays firm, because the Cubs are the only realistic destination for Peavy.

I'd say the bolded indicates that DonnieD's source must not be affiliated with the Cubs.

 

If the Braves are just a bluff now, then the bluffee kinda has to be out of the loop, right?

 

That points the finger at the Pads' FO, or perhaps Peavy's agent.

 

Given that, I'd say it's noteworthy that desipio/Dolan was citing a Pads FO person for his insider info earlier Tuesday. Is the same "inside" person behind both tidbits? Are there two different "inside" people leaking the same basic info?

 

Or is this all a sinister and inhumane plot to toy with our emotions?
