Like I said, he probably would have sucked anyways with us. Broken his arm in the parking lot or something.

Maybe Donnie is hanging out in Puerto Rico with the Peavy family....

There's only one person who can say with certainty that Peavy is Chicago-bound, and that is Kevin Towers. If you hear it first from Peavy, Hendry, or anyone else personally, they can make some highly-qualified assumptions based on their role in the process, but those are still assumptions. The only thing anyone else can tell anyone is Peavy can tell anyone where he is NOT going to go due to his NTC.

Likewise, with all of the media reports that he's going to Atlanta, those reports are coming from sources who are likely not Kevin Towers or affiliated directly with him, so I take those with a grain of salt as well.

On a side note, if he's going to Atlanta, then it has to happen today, right? If I'm not mistaken, COB today is Atlanta's deadline before they move on to the FA market?

Only mildly plausible scenario:

DonnieD knows Peavy personally. Peavy says there are no circumstances under which he'll agree to go to Atlanta. Peavy says that the San Diego ownership situation is such that Towers must trade him. This leaves the Cubs as the only legitimate suitor.

Very, very unlikely.

The Pads aren't happy with what the Cubs and Braves offered. They are looking around talking to other clubs. Time will tell.

really? where is that coming from?

At least the second part of that goes against what pretty much every source has agreed on so far...

Due to the NTC, there aren't really any other clubs they can talk to, unless those talks are in the context of helping Chicago or Atlanta work a 3 or 4 team deal.

Meh, let Peavy go to the Braves. I would have been happy to have him, but not at all upset if we didn't get him. I'd rather us allocate our resources towards a RF and resigning Wood (assuming we can sign Demp to a reasonable contract...if not target Lowe or Burnett or someone).

I just want to win a freaking playoff game. I had a dream last night the Cubs got to the playoffs again, and lost the first game of the series.

If we make the playoffs next year, which we should....there is gonna be so much pressure in game 1.

Hopefully we can at least get home field advantage so that our fans can be dead quiet for us again.

I am not saying that another acceptable club will step in and offer more, but right now a # 1 starting pitcher is on the market and, in Tower's mind, teams are offering spare parts. The pads want more than that and are chatting with other clubs. Will they get it? Time will tell.

If the Pads were happy with what was being offered, the deal would be done.

But what about all the reports that Peavy had a very limited number of clubs that he would wave his NTC for??????

They're offering spare parts because they know Towers has to offload him, and they know that they don't have to offer a better package than the rest of the league. There's only a couple of teams they can work with. It's kind of like supply and demand. Peavy's NTC allows him to limit the demand to as few teams as he wants. Less demand = lower price unless you get lucky and get the two capable of offering the most going against each other, but that's not the case here.

It is limited, but not to 2 teams. Towers also wouldn't hesitate to try to convince him to expand that list if an attractive team made a better offer.

It's really three teams, but one of them is in the division, and Towers really doesn't want to improve one of his divisional rivals. So, until Peavy comes out and says "I will accept a trade to the Yankees or someone else," the pool is two unless Towers determines that trading him to the Dodgers is worth it.

The only chance we have to win a playoff series is to take the lead in the first game and never relinquish it on the way to a Game 1 victory.

If we fall behind at any point in any game played when the series is tied, it's over. Zero chance to win.

LOL, dude you need some sleep institute help or something. It's been over far too long for you to keep having these dreams.

He can talk to anyone he wants, but it won't do any good if Peavy doesn't want to go there. That doesn't mean they're in the mix.

Why would he approve a trade to a bad team when he could easily force his way onto a contender? He knows very well that SD ownership is in disarray right now and is in the midst of a firesale.

I don't really buy the close to home stuff.

Just telling you what is going on. Believe it or not, I don't really care.
