You really think Carpenter's going to jump back into being a great pitcher after TJS?

Not great immediately, but I think he'll be pretty good.

This thinking led me to draft Francisco Liriano in the first 8 rounds of two fantasy drafts this year.

Smart pick, TT (me too).

+1. But at least you guys didn't spend a lot of money buying and trading for his baseball cards in anticipation of supreme dominance, thus spiking his cards value up big time

My baseball card collection is so full of fail I pull them out just to laugh at them at times. I have 25 assorted autograph and game used Corey Patterson cards.

Well, I would think that Glaus and Duncan are going to improve because Glaus is slugging .090 points below his career average and Duncan is slugging .121 below average. I was saying that Wainwright/Carpenter would be the best playoff contenders 1-2, which is why I didn't count Volquez/Harang or Cain/Lincecum. If you really believe that Dempster is going to keep it up, go ahead and replace Carpenter with Wellemeyer.

Do you really think the Cardinals are the 2nd best team in the NL Central? If you believe their season thus far is the "real deal", then you can't deny the success of Ryan Dempster in '08. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, but are you also claiming that Wainwright/Wellemeyer is a better combo than Zambrano/Dempster?

Glaus' OPS AND SLG have decreased by .030 each season since '04. Glaus is slugging .063 below his avg, however it is reasonable to expect another significant decline this season.

How many teams in the NL are definitively better than the Cardinals, anyway, even if we believe their performance to date is a fluke? There's a lot of bad teams in the NL, and a few good ones made bad by injuries.

I'd say the D-Backs, Brewers, Braves, Mets, and Phillies, and possibly the Reds, Dodgers, and Marlins

Considering the likes of current and former Cardinals Mark McGwire, Fernando Vina, Troy Glaus, Rick Ankiel, Ron Villone, Ryan Franklin, Juan Gonzalez, etc. and their Leader, The Great Enabler (LaRussa), wanted to sign Barry Bonds, I think it's obvious what has "gotten into" the Cardinals.

This better not be another Edmonds reference.

That's what happens when you throw more than you have in several years in 1/3 of the time. You lose effectiveness(Braden Looper), or you get hurt.

ps that means you're next Dempster, hope Hill and Marshall are healthy

I never like to see someone injured, but you know -- it's about damn time the Cards starting having to deal with the consequences of just throwing random players into whatever role they feel like it regardless of whether the player is capable of handling that role or not.

I'm still waiting for something to happen to Braden Looper.

Looper is awful, he needs to stay as healthy as possible.

Yeah I was gonna say, I'd much rather see Looper than Jaime Garcia from your perspective.

When was the last time the Cardinals even lost a series?

Good lord I wish I could just stand in front of their stadium and yell "GO AWAY GO AWAY!!! FOR GODS SAKE GO AWAY"

You might get some strange looks if you do that. I'd probably pay 5 bucks to see it though.

Whole team goes down with injury, and yet they still keep winning.

Sheesh.

Oh well, at least they put the Stros out of it (them & the Crew), and now they'll end any remaining hope the Reds might have had.

Sheesh.

Wainwright's turn in the rotation hasn't been missed yet, and they haven't played a game without Pujols yet.

The emotional devastation hasn't even had time to set in.
