  1. they're a game out of the wild card if they brewers lose tonight; they're almost certainly too far back to challenge for the division, but they're hardly out of the WC race.
  2. Guy on 2nd with 2 outs and guys on 1st and 2nd with 2 outs isn't that close to scoring. They had 1st and 2nd 1 out in the first inning.
  3. Dave Duncan makes bad pitchers good. My question has always been, how come none of these guys can take their adjustments from Duncan and continue being acceptable after they leave STL? It seems to me that since Duncan was a catcher, which is kind of rare for a pitching coach, it's not adjustments in mechanics he makes so much as adjustment in approach. Maybe that's harder to carry with a pitcher.
  4. let's take a moment to remember Pedro as he was, the most dominant pitcher of all time. His 2000 line: 214 IP, 128 H, 32 BB, 284 K, 1.74 ERA, .74 WHIP
  5. good to know, that always seemed like an idiotic ruling.
  6. fixed that for you... I was confused at first :) lol, thanks
  7. Even more ridiculous: May 8, 2008. Randy Johnson strikes out 20 batters in the first nine innings of an extra inning game. But because the game goes to extra innings (and even though he doesn't pitch in those extra innings), he doesn't get credit for tying the record for most strikeouts in a game.
  8. There needs to be an investigation. Yeah, that .302 average and .816 ops Schumaker has accrued are just beyond comprehension given his .298 career average and .774 career ops. And 6 homers in 258 at-bats? Crazy. And Ankiel, he's hitting .254 with as many homers in 80 games as he hit in 30 last year. Clearly something is amiss. Easy buddy, remember that this is a Cubs forum. Try to get your feet wet before you start in with the condescension. I think that the sooner cubs fans stop obsessing about the stupid cardinals, the better. if it takes some cardinal condescension to get it to happen, im all for it. agreed. They're a decent team. They're not as good as the Cubs, but they might be good enough to get to the playoffs and then get lucky. That's all.

I apologize.
  10. Keep reading a bit, I'm sure you'll find plenty of that stuff here too. Except not Hilarious that we bust out that 'best fans in baseball' line to mock Cards fans all the time, and then make posts like this. Here on nsbb we treat opposing teams' fans with nothing but respect. True story.

  13. Brewers hang on to win :(
  14. same guy, i believe.
  15. The rest of them are fouling off pitches, making contact, taking balls. He's wiffing feebly at anything and everything. Murton fouled off three pitches that last at-bat.
  16. no, but it'd be better if someone got a hit so the Rays' manager isn't tempted to leave him in longer than he normally would.
  17. There are a lot of good hitters out there who can't hit major league pitching. The idea that pitchers should be able to do it as a secondary skill is just silly. NFL teams used to play ironman, maybe we should go back to that? Great if you can tackle; if you can't block or catch passes too, you're not an athlete, though.
  18. i'm going to take the under it should be like 5% If they play .500 ball the rest of the way, which is obviously doable, they'll finish with 87-88 wins. You think the Marlins and the Phillies will both finish with more wins than that?
  19. it's a formality; Wainwright was dl'ed for Duncan, Pujols will be dl'ed shortly.
  20. WOW! This is gonna be a fun month. That's not a horrible lineup if you take their 2008 performances seriously. If you're like me and you don't, then wow. Please please keep us as injury free as possible. This kind of stuff can happen to us just as easily as it happened to them. I think you have to take Ludwick/Ankiel/Schumaker at least a bit seriously. Now, even Ludwick's been reverting to his norm a bit lately, but they're clearly better than what we gave them credit for in April.
  21. there is no value on Cardinal players. Someone will envitably feel their shoes and perhaps be better and the players suck if they leave for a different team Except Eckstein, he's pretty much sucked the entire time He put up OBPs of .363, .350, .356 in three years in the leadoff spot for them. Obviously his value is diminished by his complete lack of power, but then again power in the leadoff spot isn't as important. Soriano would do well to be a little (just a little) more like David Eckstein in that no. 1 spot.
  22. if the Cardinals are still in this thing when Pujols comes back, it's going to be a very interesting second half of the season.
  23. Wainwright's turn in the rotation hasn't been missed yet, and they haven't played a game without Pujols yet. The emotional devastation hasn't even had time to set in.
