A source familiar with the Brewers' trade for Cleveland lefty C.C. Sabathia just told me that the other players going to the Indians with Matt LaPorta are minor-league pitchers Zach Jackson and Rob Bryson and a fourth player, perhaps minor-league third baseman Taylor Green.

The fourth player currently is listed as "to be named later" but it is believed the Indians want to look more at Green, with the idea of moving him to second base.

Jackson, who was up briefly with the Brewers this season, is 1-5 with a 7.85 ERA at Class AAA Nashville in 22 appearances (six starts).

Bryson is pitching at Class A West Virginia, where he is 3-2 with a 4.25 ERA in 22 outings (five starts).

If Green indeed is the fourth player, he is batting .298 with 10 homers and 54 RBI at Class A Brevard County.

We could have topped these scrubs. WOW.

We could have topped the throw-ins, but this deal was made with LaPorta...and NO, we could not have matched that. Quit being so melodramatic. It's worse than my nine-year-old niece!

Good for Milwaukee. Sabathia is the type of rental that is worth everything you give up. Whether the Brewers make the playoffs or not, it's a good move for them. He clearly gives them a much better shot to win it all this year.

bryson was rated by BA as the brewers' #11 prospect coming into this year; jackson was not among their top 30. as mentioned before, rogers was ranked at #17.

Mark Rogers is involved in this trade?

He has a fantastic arm, but horrific control. He's still young enough to become a good pitcher.

I'd like to ask you what tradeable player in our system offers what LaPorta can, since a middle of the order power bat is what Cleveland was obviously looking for.

the cubs suck

Wow.

So the Cubs suck because they were actually relevant for 25 years while the Brewers stockpiled young talent?

I wouldn't mind Maddux if Hendry finds a way to make the Padres take Marquis.

I think Hendry has plenty of parts and cash to net him a frontline starter from some team come July. Hopefully he can find a way to get another lights out bullpen arm from somewhere and a right handed power bat for the bench. Please Hendry make this move sooner rather than later.

I'm comparing them to the Brewers. The Cubs have made the postseason 5 times I think in the past 25 years. Brewers=0 appearances.

Calling the Cubs relevant for 25 years is some serious revisionist history. They were relevant for far less than half of those.

1984, 1989, 1998, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008. so 8 of the past 25 years.

Great gamble by the Brewers. I would have loved to see the Cubs get Sabathia, but Hendry is not the type of guy to mortgage the farm system for one player. He is more of the bargain basement trade shopper. The big trades that he has been able to pull off, seem to always having the Cubs giving up fringe guys like Bobby Hill, Matt Bruback, Mitre, B. Harris, etc.

I don't think not getting Sabathia has anything to do with Hendry not wanting to go all in. We didn't have the prospect to match the Brewers deciding to use LaPorta in the deal.

I visited brewerfan.net and somebody there is printing up t-shirts to celebrate this trade. Seriously. ](*,)

if the cubs just traded for one of the top 5 or so pitchers in baseball, i'd not only print up t-shirts but i'd make an oath to have my future kid's first and middle initial be c's so i can honor him forever.

The Cubs came out hot with most of their players overproducing, the Brewers came out cold with a lot of players slumping. Since about mid May the two teams have produced at about the same level. The Cubs talent level wasn't higher than ours entering the season in my opinion. Gallardo going down hurt more than Soriano so right now we probably are a tad behind them in talent but if we trade for Sabathia it is back even.

I agree partially with that assessment, however, nothing that Hendry has done in the past has shown that he is willing to take a big gamble in a trade. We may never know what the Cubs were offering or whether they even had any advanced conversations with the Indians re:C.C.
