A trade has to be fair for both sides.

Something like Deng and Rose for Beasely and Wade.

No it doesn't have to be. It's called fleecing because one team desperately wants something and will pay to get it.

Beasley is only 6.8 with shoes? Wow, that's 2 inches shorter than what he was listed at. But isn't everyone in the NBA at least one inch shorter than what they are listed?

NBA heights are shoe heights generally.

Michael Beasley measured in at 6-7 and 6-8 1/4 with shoes.

Ha! Vindication! Take that people who doubted me.

He did fairly well in the combine, lifting the 185 bar 19 times, jumping 35 inches on the max vert, but measuring a slightly high body fat at 7.7%

I need to lose some weight if 7.7 is high.

Derrick Rose also came in shorter than expected - 6-1 1/2 barefoot and 6-2 1/2 with shoes (get bigger soles). He has a 6-8 wingspan, a 40 inch vertical and ran the 3/4 court sprint very fast at 3.05.

Patrick Ewing's kid and OJ Mayo had the higest vertical at 42".

Kevin Love was faster than DeAndre Jordan and Anthony Randolph. :-k

Joey Dorsey checked in at 6-6 1/4" without shoes, 6-7 1/4" with.

Lightest Player: Mike Taylor- 166 pounds, followed by D.J. Augustin at 171.

Heaviest Player: Kentrell Gransberry- 290 pounds

Lowest Body Fat: Lester Hudson- 3.4%

Highest Body Fat: Kentrell Gransberry -17.4% body fat

Best no-step vertical: Patrick Ewing- 35 inches

Best Max-Step Vertical: O.J. Mayo- 42 inches (tied with Ewing)

Bench Press: Josh Duncan 26 reps

Fastest Lane Agility: Sonny Weems- 10.58 seconds

Fastest ¾ Court Sprint: Sonny Weems- 2.96, (Joe Alexander 2.99)

Hmmm. . . who said Beasley was somewhere between 6'7" and 6'8"? That would be me, earlier in this thread. He simply looked nowhere near the 6'9" or 6'10" he was listed at. Patting yourself on the back is fun.

The Tribune said this today,

"Would the Bulls give up the No. 1 draft position to the Heat in exchange for Wade and the No. 2 overall selection? Or some combination of other players and picks?"

I would hope so. Wade and Beasley or just Rose? I'm going with the former.

Thieves! They stole the idea from me...

If they don't want Hinrich, Gordon, or Deng, then flip one or two of those to other teams for players/picks that the Heat would want. I think it's doable.

No.1 and Gordon or Hinrich for No.2 and Wade

SOLD

They supposedly want Rose, right? Would they have any interest in getting another guard to go along with him?

if they lose Wade, what do they have left in terms of guards?

They'd be getting Rose and either Hinrich or Gordon, so there's two guards for them. They have no one else that's better than a league average backup at either guard position.

Now now, you (and wolf) weren't the only one(s).

It's got to be the shoes!

True. Credit where credit is due.

He's still an outstanding prospect, of course.

Basketball Prospectus chat

Grasspike (NC): If you were GM of the Chicago Bulls, would you draft Rose or Beasley? I think I would go with Beasley, because the lack of a good PF has held them back for a few years now...

Kevin Pelton (Basketball): I'm of the opinion that the Bulls already have a pretty good power forward in Tyrus Thomas. I know his issues in terms of focus and consistency, and they're very real, but he's not going to overcome them on the bench. The next head coach, whether it's Collins or anyone else, needs to turn Thomas and Noah loose and live with some mistakes because it will pay off in the end.

More than that, though, you don't decide the No. 1 overall pick based on need. You pick the better prospect and fill around them. This might be an exception because both players are outstanding prospects, but I like Rose slightly more. The way the game is developing has tended to favor perimeter players as compared to post players, and Rose showed very special ability during the NCAA Tournament.

Beasley seemed to have a decent mid-range jumper, how was his 3 pt shooting? Plus, with his arm span (have they measured that yet) he may play taller.

He shot it at 38% from college three. (36 out of 95). I was impressed with his outside shot the times I saw him play.

Thanks snood. I wouldn't be surprised if he is going to be a better pro than college player. He looked pretty quick with the ball which would be a tough matchup with guys with poor footwork and he could shoot and rebound over smaller guys due to his arm span. I think he'll be a tough matchup.

Ford v. 5.0

http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/draft2008/columns/story?columnist=ford_chad&page=MockDraft-080617

The skinny: The Bulls finally pulled the trigger on a head coach -- but we have a hard time believing that Vinny Del Negro will have a major influence on whom the Bulls choose to draft.

With so much confusion in Chicago about whether owner Jerry Reinsdorf or GM John Paxson calls the shots, inevitably there are conflicting reports about whom the Bulls will take at No. 1. Though the majority of people I've spoken with believe Derrick Rose will be the pick, some insist Michael Beasley will be the Bulls' choice. The Bulls, for what it's worth, continue to maintain that they haven't made a decision and will let the process play out the next few days.

My money is still on Rose, but I'm not as confident as I was a week ago that he'll be the pick.

Love at 5, Westbrook at 6. :) Too bad those are 2 bad teams.

If anybody gets a chance, listen to the Michael Beasley interview on ESPN 1000 with Silvy and Waddle. Listening to the clips, he did sound ambivalent and immature...

Hmmm, really? He sounded fine to me. They asked him about his maturity level and he just said "I'm 19, how mature do you want me to be?" I guess I'm not sure how he's supposed to answer that question, either. It's pretty much asking a kid why he's not a man yet. Well.......because the planet hasn't revolved around the Sun enough times yet, I guess.

What do you guys think of John Hollinger's draft analysis where he uses college stats to predict their eventual value?

I never was a big fan but they seem especially wacky this year.
