Give Soto a day off and start Cedeno at SS, please.

So you're suggesting to not have a catcher at all? :D

Ronny has talents we haven't even begun to explore.

I remember the one game I went to at Wrigley in 2003, the Cubs played the Phillies and Randy Wolf shut them out 3-0. It was Aram and Lofton's first game as Cubs and they went 0-8 combined. I was so pissed.

Let's win tonight.

Was that the game where Aramis wore #15 and Lofton wore #1? I was there too! Then the next game they went to their usual #16 and #7 respectively. Good times.... good times.

I agree with the sitting Geo sentiment, he needs a day off, going 0 for his last 12. Also, he has started 12 consecutive games for the Cubs, going at least 9 innings behind the plate in 10 of those 12. Blanco hasn't started since April 27th, and has only started 5 out of the Cubs 37 games.

Here's a likely lineup:

Soriano LF

Johnson CF

Lee 1B

Ramirez 3B

Fukudome RF

DeRosa 2B

Cedeno SS

Blanco C

I wouldn't mind that at all.

Did that happen? I was in Europe at the time the trade was made, so I missed the first week of Lofton and Ramirez. I'd love to see a picture of Rammy in #15 if anyone has it.

I'd love to see at least one of the lefties in each of the next 2 games. Wolf has allowed LH hitters to go 8-23 so far this year. Estes just 1 for 1. I don't think Fukudome or Pie would have any trouble hitting either pitcher as they aren't exactly dominant.

As a matter of fact, I have been thinking about that idea, but from the data so far this year, no obvious cutoff point is jumping out at me here.......

Team record by number of walks taken

CUBS are 0-2 when they take 0 walks
CUBS are 1-0 when they take 1 walks
CUBS are 4-1 when they take 2 walks
CUBS are 4-3 when they take 3 walks
CUBS are 1-3 when they take 4 walks
CUBS are 2-2 when they take 5 walks
CUBS are 2-2 when they take 6 walks
CUBS are 3-1 when they take 7 walks
CUBS are 2-1 when they take 8 walks
CUBS are 1-0 when they take 9 walks
CUBS are 1-0 when they take 10 walks
CUBS are 1-0 when they take 11 walks
CUBS are 0-0 when they take 12 walks

Looks like 5 walks is the median right now (19 games with less, 18 games with 5 or more). So, they are 12-6 when they draw at least 5 walks, and 10-9 when they don't.

That's true enough, but it really doesn't even suggest a trend or a strong correlation. Alternatively, you say.........

CUBS are 5-1 when draw 8 walks or more

CUBS are 8-8 when they draw 4-7 walks

CUBS are 9-6 when they draw fewer than 4 walks.

If there's really a trend hiding in there somewhere, it will show itself as the season wears on, and the sample size increases.

I'd be cool with this as well. Padres are an excellent team to rest Soto against...no real threat of speed, and I doubt we'll need an offensive explosion of our own to beat them. This series will depend more on our starting pitching being consistent, and not playing down to our competition.

I would assume so with the increase size. Look at the stat for 4 walks. 1-3. Talk about a variance.

That game infuriated me so much it was the first and only time I ever took a break from the Cubs. I did everything I could to avoid any baseball exposure for two weeks, then came back to find them four games over again.

I'm sure as the season goes on a cut-off point will develop. We simply haven't played enough games to have a whole lot of data for that, yet.
