Zambrano vs. this lineup, at home, and the Cubs'lineup vs. a very mediocre-at-best lefty.

Nothing is a gimme in baseball, but I like this matchup more than any game we've had all season.

agreed. 2nd best home record in the NL, 3rd best in the majors. Plus Z is just nails

No Cedeno....No Pie.....No Blanco.........Lou is brutal.

Lefty starter. No Pie, for once, makes sense.

jim edmonds will face a lot of lefty starters, book it

I doubt it.

Wow, I'm looking over this Padres lineup and it is just hideous. Absolutely hideous. Even away from Petco they are hitting .247 .313 .379, which puts them in a close fight with Washington and SF for worst offense in the league.

They have managed the impressive feat of putting up a team VORP of -0.6. That's right, their offense as a whole has been below replacement level at this point (and VORP adjust for home park).

The Randy Wolf scouting report from fangraphs:

65% fastballs at 88 MPH, 10% sliders at 80, 15% curveballs at 67, 10% changeups at 78. Seems like he has a lot of variation in his speed.

Career GB/FB of .95 (what's the wind doing tonight?), getting smoked for a 29.1% line drive percentage compared to 21.4% career.

I'm all for throwing Pie at EVERY starter every day and having him learn thru trial and error.

Let the kid play man, stunting his growth and delaying it on the bench does nothing.

Stupid listing of games in Central Time. I'm used to converting from East Coast time and I was ready for this game to start right now but realized I have to wait another hour after checking mlb.com. Ugh.

That's what you get for living in the wrong time zone. :P

Eff CSN. I have the day off thanks to finals and was looking forward to crashing after this super-long day of final-crap and watching the game. No such luck. Radio it is.

Meh, I don't see him ever learning to hit lefties at the major league level. Most lefties probably shouldn't face lefties, but when they're really good players overall, they won't be platooned for. Doesn't mean they shouldn't be. I'm not saying there aren't exceptions, but I'm generally in favor of platooning for lefties.

And it's not really a big deal either, since a good majority of starting pitchers are righties.

Unfortunately, Lou isn't even giving Pie his PAs vs. righties. And he's about to start giving them to a 38 year old with nothing left in the tank.

Leave Greene when you leave, padres.

Can we please quit slobbing this guys knob? Theriot and Cedeno have both proven to be adequate major league SS. Maybe not quite as good as Greene, but they are making the minimum and don't require a trade to acquire them.

also, i'm just looking at the SD lineup now, but, LOL @ the SD lineup.

We won't be laughing when they put up 15 in this one.

Ya, this has all the makings of the "eff you game" in Madden. There is no way you should lose, but you get blown out by 30 and Peyton Manning throws 9 interceptions.

Yeah, the Pads lineup is bad but I don't like how everybody is acting as though this is an easy win.

I wish I had a dollar for every "easy win" I've seen the Cubs lose.

It's more about a personal man-crush on the guy, not that I'm unhappy with either Theriot or Cedeno, sorry.
