Well that was not an intelligent move by Lee. The only thing he could have done was end the inning.

This is the same board that said a one-pitch flyout by Lee was better than a seven-pitch strikeout by Theriot, so I'm sure Lee did the right thing.

Please explain to me how DLee stealing third in that situation could have possibly helped the Cubs?

He's fast enough that, barring an absolute rocket to one of the outfielders, he would have scored from second on any base hit to the outfield.

There were two outs so no possibility of a sacrifice fly.

Not to mention that if he gets thrown out, the inning is over and he would have taken the bat out of Soto's hands with two runners on base.

Yea, I'm sure that's EXACTLY what was said.

Or move himself up so a hard-hit single to the shallow OF would still score him. He had no way of knowing Soto would walk.

That play didn't bother me. Lee's a smart guy. I'm guessing he doesn't go unless he KNOWS he's going to get in there in that situation.

Doesn't mean it wasn't pointless to attempt the steal.

Takes away the force out at third, ensures he scores on an infield single, WP, or passed ball. It's not likely, but it is possible.

the point is in bold.

Granted, it's not that big of an advantage to be standing on 3rd v. 2nd with two outs....but still. Assuming he knew he could make it why not take it.

Jesus Z is on. 19 pitches through 2

Lyle Overbay just lined into a triple play, as Toronto's offense continues to suck.

That's the first triple play in...how many years? I don't remember one last year.

EDIT: Truffle beat me to it. Yeah, one in April too.

Except he didn't know he could make it. There's always a chance that he gets thrown out and if he does, he takes the bat out of the hands of one of the team's best hitters. The risk far exceeded the reward which is why it was a stupid play. Obviously it didn't matter because he was safe and the Cubs didn't score any more runs anyway, but that doesn't make it a smart move.

Tulowitski had an unassisted triple play last year. White Sox had one against the Twins in 2006. Houston had one that same year, I believe.
