Xavier has 3 key seniors leaving and has a good but not great recruiting class coming in. Miller's value will never be higher than it is now. If he ever wants to leave Xavier, this is the time to do it.

And there are definite benefits to leaving a non-major conference and taking a job at a major school. I wouldn't blame Miller if he didn't want to come to Indiana right now, but he definitely should seriously consider it. If he turns it down, he may never get an opportunity like that again.

i wasn't sure where to put this and didn't want to necessarily start a new thread, so I'll put it here.

Hutchins is claiming Dakich has kicked Bassett and Ellis off the team for missing team meetings. Hahahahahahaha...you've got to be fisting me. Just when I think it can't get any more dis-functional.

I heard this was going to happen over the weekend. The problem runs deeper than missing practices, by the way. Think of that as a euphemism similar to what was said about the mid-season suspensions. Then you'll have your answer as to why.

So what is the real story here with Bassett and Ellis? It better be something fairly substantial for Mr Interim to be kicking kids off the team when we may have our new coach named in a few days. The timing is just bizarre.

I think Dakich is going to be your new coach, after failing to get any high-profile names.

Is your goal at NSBB to hurt me? First you beat me to 1000, then you question my knowledge of gritty players, and now this?!?!

I'm not particularly fond of Dakich kicking players off the team days before a new coach is announced, much less when he's publicly campaigned for the job. I would certainly hope this wasn't a unilateral decision, but, even still, I think it could've waited. As to why, you have heard the "rumored" reasons for the earlier suspensions, no? That's your answer.

Finally, seeing as this is Indiana, hiring Dakich as full-time coach wouldn't surprise me. It's their modus operandi. The search they're conducting does stray from that; though it doesn't necessarily give me hope that someone preferable to Dakich will be hired. (I do know who the university wants as its next coach, and though he's preferable, it's highly unlikely in my opinion.)

When did I question your knowledge of gritty players?

Your knowledge of gritty players is unrivaled.

Apparently, they are just kicked off the Dan Dakich coached IU basketball team. Which means, they could be off the team for about 3 more days or at most a couple weeks.

Yes, one must wonder how serious a punishment this actually is. I wouldn't write their IU obituaries just yet. However, I for one, wouldn't miss Ellis.

Let your reference to the Tony Bennett article guide you.

In the thread about Corey Patterson starting you said a gritty player can be half white too. I guess you didn't question it, but just the fact that you had to add something angered me.

I am getting a kick out of the guy on Peegs free board responding to posts saying different people (the AD, the IU pilot, etc.) were fired by Dakich for not running laps.

It would seem Dakich has lost favorite son status. A really unfortunate, thankless position he's been in pretty much ever since he was made an assistant.

Not gonna happen. I think McCallum would be promoted rather than letting Dakich keep the job after the mess at the end of the season.

I know Ellis hasn't passed a drug test all year and Bassett has failed several. That's from a high source in the Athletic Department at IU. Way overdue to kick them off the team.

It wasn't just "missing a meeting".

Crawford failed 3 in a row and even DJ failed one, so they've been watching too many Cheech and Chong movies.

Good lord that's a lot of failed drug tests...how in the world are they still playing?

On the drug topic, and for a hilarious aside, the Sacramento Bee has started asking a featured high schooler some questions every week (best sports moment, favorite class, etc.) and running it in their high school section every week. Well last week they asked an Elk Grove baseball player what the last movie he watched was. His answer: Half Baked. I mean, even if you're not a pothead, why would you admit to watching a movie about pot to the flippin newspaper?
