Miguel Cabrera-3B-Marlins Dec. 4 - 7:29 pm et

In addition to Cameron Maybin, Andrew Miller and Mike Rabelo, the Marlins will get three right-handers in the Miguel Cabrera-Dontrelle Willis trade: Dallas Trahern, Eulogio De La Cruz and Burke Badenhop.

Excluding Rick Porcello, who was ineligible to be traded, Trahern and De La Cruz were the Tigers' top remaining pitching prospects. Trahern is a future middle-of-the-rotation starter, while De La Cruz profiles as a setup man or maybe a closer. Badenhop, like Trahern, is a sinkerballer with a modest strikeout rate. He has a chance to stick as a starter, but he's not quite as good of a bet.

Sweet, my boy Miggy is gonna get a title. It's going to suck playing as Florida on mlb2k8 now, though.

Did you forget about him getting a title that one year when that one thing happened down the left field line?

Imagine being an Indians fan right now. Blowing a 3-1 lead in the ALCS and now probably not making the playoffs again for at least 4 years.

At least the Cubs were favorites going into 2004. The Indians are going to have to beat the Yankees out for the Wild Card if they have any hope of the postseason.

Anybody else think Thames and Jock will be a really solid "weak link" in their batting order? Their new weak link is the very overpaid Pudge Rodriguez now...

Yeah, I don't understand how anyone can be a fan of Miguel Cabrera or the Marlins.

Im glad they beat out the Sox.

Those Tigers sure arent playing around though.

Yeah, I don't think a trade offer with Gavin Floyd as one of the key parts really stood much of a chance.

And eff Jeff Loria.

Magglio isn't gonna come close to repeating his 07 numbers. Sheffield will be injury prone as usual. Pudge will continue to age rapidly. Jones will struggle in Comerica Park. Renteria doesn't hit in the AL. Polanco will hit nowhere near what he did last year. Guillen will continue to age and decline. Granderson will decline.

Actually, I think about 4-5 of those things have a decent chance of happening. Guillen had a .747 post ASB OPS, Sheff and Pudge were in the .600s. Those 3 plus Maggs, Renteria, Jones and Polanco will all be at least 33 by the end of the 2008 season.

Is this Tigers lineup that much better than what the Yankees threw out there last year? What about the 07 Mets? Granted the Tigers will have better pitching than either of those teams, but if the Red Sox get Santana, and possibly if they don't, they are at best the 2nd best AL team. Heck the Yankees may be better next year if they get Santana. The Indians may be better if Hafner comes back to form and they get a 3rd starter.

Cubs don't have one prospect that's as good as any of those six

I don't know about that. I don't think they have anyone as good as Maybin or Miller, but the catcher isn't that great and none of the other 3 arms are top of the rotation guys.

If you meant that the Cubs couldn't come up w/ 6 equal prospects (as a group) I'd probably agree with you. Maybin and Miller put this deal over the top, obviously.

BTW, this deal does suprise me. I was part of the group that thought Florida could get more dealing these guys seperately and this deal seems to prove that. Arguably, the Marlins could have asked for Maybin and Miller for just Cabrera. The other 4 guys are kind of Meh...

Yeah, I wouldn't rule out Cleveland. Minnesota doesn't appear to be getting enough back for Santana to be much good in 2008, so they look to slip next year. Cleveland has a lot to offer to get the bat they are looking for. I believe they will get Bay eventually. With Peralta at SS and Asdrubal Cabrera looking good enough, Josh Barfield could be dealt. Andy Marte could be dealt. Franklin Guttierez could be dealt. Lee has been on the trade block. I still like their line up A LOT. Let's just say they get Jason Bay.

Sizemore, Cabrera, Martinez, Bay, Hafner, Peralta, Garko, Blake, Michaels

Their pitching staff isn't too bad either. Sabathia, Carmona, Westbrook, Byrd and one of Cliff Lee, Adam Miller or Jeremy Sowers.
