Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller would probably have to be involved with a trade rumor like that. Whoa.

That would be a start. I'd be interested to see how the Tigers could get both guys. What a package that must be.

Miguel Cabrera-3B-Marlins Dec. 4 - 12:02 pm et

The Tigers and trying to get both Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis from the Marlins and could offer both Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller, according to FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal.

The Marlins would probably want those two for Cabrera alone, so the Tigers may have to come up with more. Starting pitcher Dallas Trahern is a logical candidate to be included. Ideally, the Tigers could swap Brandon Inge for a prospect first and use that prospect in the deal. The Giants and Phillies are candidates to be interested in Inge.

This deal won't happen. But usually I say don't throw all your eggs into 1 basket (i.e. don't trade Cabrera and Willis in the same deal to the same team), but Maybin and Miller makes it worth it. I can't see the Tigers trading both. I'd imagine Maybin would interest the Marlins more than Miller..

Willis is a vastly overpriced asset that probably shouldn't bring in any significant value in a trade. A deal of these two saves Florida a ton of cash. I think they should include Willis if they can get back what Cabrera should be worth.

I disagree. Willis has a perceived value that would likely net them some young talent. I think they could get more by dealing them separately.

If the Yanks miss out on Santana, I wonder if they would move to Willis? Would that bring them more than what the Tigers are offering?

Agreed. He's a lefty that has had success and has the ever important playoff experience. I think a lot of people around baseball think he was a victim of his surroundings being one of the few members left from the championship team. He lost a lot of his closest friends and blah, blah, blah. There's still some value there, especially considering what else is on the market.

That perceived value is why he is going to make a ton of cash in arbitration. Cash Florida probably has very little interest in paying.

And some team will be willing to pay that ton of cash in arbitration AND give up talent to get him.

I would probably compare any Cabrera/Willis deal to the Beckett/Lowell deal. Taking Lowell and his salary was a condition to getting Beckett. The package Boston put together was geared towards Beckett. They didn't add pieces to get Lowell. Same thing here, probably.

I think Willis has a lot more value to teams than Lowell did though. A lefty that can give you innings and keep you in a game is pretty desired.

I agree. I think the Tigers only taking Willis off Marlins hands.

If I were the Tigers I would keep Inge. He isnt horrible. I think he can play several positions. Sheffield will be lucky to play 130 games. Cabrera can DH and Inge can play 3rd base those games.

Tigers sure are gutting their farm system this off-season. If this trade happens they will have a strong lineup though with quality pitching.

Wow...I didnt think the Tigers had a payroll to accept both Cabrera and Willis. Willis is gonna cost them a ton now, and Cabrera will cost them a truckload in the near future.

Hand the Tigers the AL Central crown if this happens, and if Santana stays in Minny all next year hand them the AL Crown.

You can't count Cleveland out. They could end up with Jason Bay.

I forgot they were in the Bay sweepstakes. If Cleveland gets Bay and a stud reliever they would contend with any team in either league.

Oooh. Bay is on the market? What could he be had for?

Hendry isn't interested in Bay. He doesn't hit wrong handed.

Not to mention Willis will be 26 when the 2008 season starts and Lowell was 32 when the 2006 season started (his first with Boston). I get the comparison you are making, USSoccer, in that Lowell/Willis are throw-ins to get Beckett/Cabrera and their value is worse now than it used to be and they are coming off horrible years, but I think Willis right now is worth more than Lowell was two years ago because of his age.

Tigers, Marlins trade talks accelerating

There were indications on Tuesday afternoon that talks between the Marlins and Tigers regarding a trade that would send third baseman Miguel Cabrera or pitcher Dontrelle Willis, or both, to Detroit for a package of players that would likely include left-hander Andrew Miller and other young players were accelerating.

Wow. This is getting interesting. Tigers would be lethal.
