Cubs don't have one prospect that's as good as any of those six

Not true.

Cubs don't have anyone as good as Maybin and Miller. Badenhorn and Trahern aren't anything special and the Cubs have better C prospects than Rabelo. De La Cruz is a bit more talented but still, he's probably got Marmol-last-season as his ceiling as a reliever.

Im just glad their in the AL. Yikes!

Unreal. Its tough to be a pitcher in the AL.

I'm surprised the Marlins actually couldn't do a little better than that - the big 2 is indeed mighty, though I am slightly less of an Andrew Miller fan that everyone else, though I'm not dumping on him by any means, but the rest... we are, after all, talking about a simply extraordinary hitter and the stunningly overrated Dontrelle Willis. Let's just get all the honeyed crap out of the way right now - reuniting Dontrelle with Pudge Rodriguez will make him go 30-0 with a 2.10 ERA and 290 innings pitched.

I'm a little surprised people are so quick to crown paper champs. How often does the best looking team on paper actually win? Some of the "2008 World Series Champs" and "Poor Cleveland won't be making the playoffs for the next 4 years" comments are surprising.

Does Detroit's starting staff have better name value than anything else? Willis is certainly name value, but what is he in terms of actual production? I don't know. Bonderman is perhaps the most overrated pitcher in baseball in terms of the gushing vs. the production. Yes, he's young. Yes, he has stolen the Javier Vazquez Crown of "Unlucky Sob Story Pitchers Who Are Guaranteed To Kick Ass Next Year, This Time We Really, Really Mean It."

An ESPN graphic amused me - they lined up the killer staff, and two of them, Bonderman and Willis, had ERAs over 5. It's fair to say that it is very unlikely to happen again, but still. I won't make bets one way or the other if he flames out in the second half yet again. Wait and see.

Kenny Rogers' ERA was 4.43.

Is it impossible to think, even if the team wins 110 games, that a team with better pitching couldn't send them packing early?

There is no doubt the Tigers look formidable. But remember the term "paper champs."

...and the AL continues to get better while the NL sinks....

I view this move as the Marlins' official "we give up" trade. I'd be suprised if they were still in Miami in 3 years, barring a new stadium deal which looked to be a longshot earlier in the year.

Detroit's payroll looks to be about the same as the Cubs, yet look at the offense they were able to assemble with that money. They'll score eleventy billion more runs in April alone.

and what's florida's payroll going to be? like 8 dollars or something? this is ridiculous. no wonder they have no fans.

Good for the Tigers. I like them. That is a wicked lineup.

I agree. Even their contracts that I think are not so hot- Pudge, Rogers, Shef- two of those come off the books for '09, money that can be used for Miggy's arbitration and then some.

As overrated as Willis is, he's not a horrible, horrible pitcher. And they haven't committed anything long term to him.

They scored almost 900 runs last year with Shef hurt a lot and Brandon Inge in the lineup a lot and Craig Monroe some. Even when Ordonez comes back to earth next year, the lineup is gonna get on base a heck of a lot more than they did two years ago when they went to the Series.

They're gonna average like 5,000 for home games this year. It's a complete joke. It's the Expos all over again. Can a move be far behind?

Two WS wins say different.

Yeah, dislike how they do things all you want, but it has brought better results than what the Cubs have done. In 5 years when Lee and Ramirez and Soriano can't get out to field their positions without the use of a cane, Florida will still be sending some very talented YOUNG players out to field theirs.

They probably will trade Hanley Ramirez when he becomes expensive. And I fully expect Florida to get at minimum 2 of the best prospects in baseball in return.

Jim Hendry couldn't have swung a deal like this to save his life.

Good for the Tigers. I like them. That is a wicked lineup.

Me too - the Tigers are my 2nd favorite team (and if Hendry keeps screwing up, I might have to switch the top 2). And yes, the Tigers lineup looks great - if Ordonez is closer to last year's performance than the 3 years before that and Sheffield is healthy, not to mention Renteria and Polanco being close to last year's .390 OBP they each put up.

They have a few guys who put up career numbers last year who might not match them or even come that close this year. Throw in their shaky rotation and this is a gamble.

Don't get me wrong, I think it's a gamble you have to take, especially with Santana likely to be in Boston or NY. I'd love to see Hendry pull off a move like this. But there are a lot of questions on Tigers team.

I don't hate many people, but the closest I could come to someone who doesn't committ terrible crimes to children would be Jeffery Loria. I am an old Expos fan and I think that he should be forced out of MLB. There are a lot of rich people who have respect for the game who want teams. He wants to lose so he can move the team, take advantage of the honeymooon period and sell them off. I wish I had a couple billion dollars so that I could finagle some way to destroy his life. He is worthless.

It shouldn't be surprising, because of the markets involved, but it's nonetheless a bit interesting how little attention is being paid to this. Cabrera is a pre-prime superstud, and he was just traded to a World Series contender. Man I wish the Cubs could have given up the farm for him.

ARod...gone...Cabrera gone....who do we move on to next? I want major impact and I just don't see Fukedome as being that.

it's funny to me that cabrera was traded for a guy (miller) who's a year older

I've turned the radio on at 4 different times today, and every time (on different shows, some national and some local) they've been discussing this trade. Same with turning on the TV this morning. At least from my experience, I don't really think this trade is receiving little attention.

Miguel Cabrera: 24

Andrew Miller: 22

Must be that "new" math I keep hearing about.
