Buster Olney - "Because he's an innings eater, Willis is the type of guy who could have a 5.00 ERA but still win 18 games with that kind of run support."

And he was implying that he'd be a good pitcher because he could win 18 games with a 5 ERA.

A guy that can frequently pitch 7-8 innings and give up 4 or 5 runs, but never let the game get away has some value. Not every Tom, Dick, and Harry can do that.

A guy with a 5 ERA doesn't consistently pitch 7-8 innings and give up 4 or 5 runs. He has some good outings and some outings where he gets rocked. Dontrelle only had 12 outings where he pitched 7+ innings and gave up 5 or less runs. So I would hardly call that "frequent". For the record, I don't think pitching 7 innings and giving up 5 runs is good.

Not to say that getting Dontrelle is a bad move, but implying that wins is a good way to assess a pitcher is not smart.

Wow. This is shaping out to be one of the most eventful winter meetings in recent memory.

It reminds me of a trade many years ago between the Blue Jays and Indians (maybe the Padres) where the principals were Roberto Alomar, Fred McGriff, and Joe Carter.

Wow.

Could you imagine if the Cubs were in the AL? We'd be competing with the Rays and Royals for top draft pick in 2009 for sure.

Hahahaha " While the Tigers may have a deal about wrapped up, the White Sox also made a strong push to acquire Miguel Cabrera this afternoon, offering Josh Fields, Gio Gonzalez and either John Danks or Gavin Floyd."

Another kick in the groin to them and plus Miggy and Willis go in their division...Theyre fans are so depressed right now

LOL. ESPN also said Bonds said he wants to play for Leyland again. Not saying any team in their right mind would sign Bonds, but could you imagine him at DH.

Does anyone actually remember when Detroit really sucked three years ago. I wish the Cubs would make a turn like that someday. Detroit is going to be a good fit for Willis. They will make him look better than he is.

yeah this deal is done

dear lord that lineup is killer.

The AL is loaded with talent. It's just sick.

Long series with (supposed) Tigers line-up vs. (supposed) Red Sox staff. Ay ay ay!

Of course the Red Sox did have the second best offense in the league last year with Manny Ramirez MIA most of the season.

Of course the Tigers do have a pretty good rotation themselves with Verlander, Bonderman, Rogers, and Willis.

Mike Rabelo-C-Tigers Dec. 4 - 6:30 pm et

ESPN's Peter Gammons says catcher Mike Rabelo is one of six players the Marlins will get in return for Miguel Cabrera.

The remaining three players will all be prospects, according to Gammons. Rabelo did a capable job of filling in with Vance Wilson hurt last year, but he's little more than a backup. If the Marlins are thinking about pairing him with Matt Treanor, they'll have one of the game's weakest catching duos.

Holy mother of all that is good and just!

The Marlins are going to be stacked in three years, by the way.

not really, by then they will be trading Uggla, Ramirez and Olsen among others. It's a neverending cycle.

Point taken. However, they'll be a pretty darn good team before they set about trading all those guys off.
