You guys think Cedeno could get some of the CF duty against tough Lefties? I have no idea if he's any good in center, but if he's serviceable, that would further the chance of Cedeno being a valuable member of the team.

Have you looked at Cedeno's splits? He's hit better vs. righties than lefties so far.

sign me up for Colvin,Marquis,Veal

Seconded. I'm fine with trading Colvin and Veal since I'm skeptical of their abilities to reach their ceilings compared to guys like Gallagher and Pie.

i don't know if this has been posted before, but i found it interesting and somewhat promising...

"He's got a wealth of athletic ability," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said of Cedeno. "He's got a good arm, he's strong, he can run. It's about time he put it together and fulfilled his promise. I like Cedeno, I really do. I want to see him get serious about baseball."

please kick theriot's behind in ST and earn the starting job cedeno!

I think the sentence following your bolded part is more telling than anything else Lou said. I wonder what, exactly, he's referring to.

I could live with trading Marquis, Veal and Colvin. Colvin is blocked by Pie, and I don't like the fact that he swings at everything. Veal had an off year this season. He's still a good prospect, but I like Gallagher more.

Yeah, that's a strange line. Growing up in Venezuela probably isn't the most ideal lifestyle. Is he showing up to Wrigley in a clown suit everyday? Please explain.

I think he's referring to his reported all-night-party attitude there.

there was some radio banter during Cedeno's first call up with the Cubs that was he was tearing up the town Farnsworths style.

Whoa whoa whoa, let's get one thing straight.

Cedeno partied, no one's denying that.

Farnsworth partied on an epic scale. I'm talking about having it get to the point where every bartender, waitress, and barfly in Wrigleyville had a crazy story about Farnsworth. Cedeno's nowhere near that point yet.

Didn't say he was in Fanrsworth league , just the same style of partying around town that gets noticed quickly. I'm sure there's guys that party a ton but tend to do it quietly and come away unnoticed.

So......I know there won't be a link, but I'm watching Hendry on the replay of Chicago Tribune live, and he's saying it's not likely any big moves will be made, unless it's for some kind of marquee-type player. He said we might tweak the outfield with a right-hander to add to the lefties we have.

Again, I don't know how much creedence to give any of this, but it didn't sound like he's working on anything major at all. Yeah, yeah: "Of course he's not going to *SAY* he's working on something big." I know. Just reporting what I heard the man say.

He did go on & on about how much he likes DeRosa and how he's happy with the players we have, and........."we're already a better ballclub than we were at the end of last year."

Video of Roberts was shown over all of this, but I don't think I heard him mention Roberts' name at all. It was a replay of the original segment, aired on Sportsnight.

I don't really understand that statement. Wouldn't those 2 be the same thing?

You would expect Hendry to say Roberts's name specifically?

As for whether or not he's working on moves, he seemed to imply it pretty strongly to me in his comments about still wanting to improve this team before spring training or at least before breaking camp. He went on to talk about how much harder it is to make trades (compared to free agency) depending on your trading partner and pointed out how quickly he got deals done with Atlanta and Oakland (to me that implied, "It's the O's fault that this is dragging on so long, not ours," but I could be reading too much into it). They might not have shown that in the segment on SportsNight.

Plus, when Crane Kenney goes on the radio and flat out says that Hendry is still working on deals for two higher profile players, I'd take that as a pretty strong indication that something is going on.

Maybe Lou is talking about a combo of things. The drinking and his work ethic.

We have a huge hole @ SS, regardless of what our organization thinks about Theriot. I expect it will become apparent to even them if Theriot is given the starting job.

I think thats rather obvious. Lou has shown no real signs of sticking with a crappy player when he has a better option floating around.

Lou is shooting alot of BS. On Friday's Chicago Tribune Live, Lou pointed out that the only spot open for competition is CF and never once mentioned Cedeno as a possibility at SS. I think Cedeno is going to be traded because Lou doesn't have the confidence in him to give him a chance to compete for a job.

If there is one thing we should have learned about Lou last year, it was that everyone was given a chance to compete for every job. Everyone acts like Lou was Dusty-stubborn last year. If Theriot starts slow or has a bad spring training and Cedeno is lighting it up, you are crazy if you don't think Lou will make a switch.

Matt Murton disagrees...but otherwise I think this is a fair statement.

I'm sure Lou had at least a little something to say about acquiring and using the likes of Monroe, Kendall, Trachsel, etc. over Murton, Soto, and Marshall/Gallagher. I've posted before saying that Lou will play a youngster as long as the youngster is "lighting it up", but at crunch time he wants and plays the veterans.

They didn't play that part on Sportsnight, no, but it still doesn't mention the O's directly. Sure you could be right, but who knows why Hendry wouldn't even mention he's not talking to the O's? Maybe he just doesn't care to get into it, maybe he has lost confidence that it will *ever* get done.

Surely you heard the part where he said he doesn't think any big deals will get done. That seemed pretty black & white to me.
