i don't know if this has been posted before, but i found it interesting and somewhat promising...

"He's got a wealth of athletic ability," Cubs manager Lou Piniella said of Cedeno. "He's got a good arm, he's strong, he can run. It's about time he put it together and fulfilled his promise. I like Cedeno, I really do. I want to see him get serious about baseball."

please kick theriot's behind in ST and earn the starting job cedeno!

You guys think Cedeno could get some of the CF duty against tough Lefties? I have no idea if he's any good in center, but if he's serviceable, that would further the chance of Cedeno being a valuable member of the team.

We have a huge hole @ SS, regardless of what our organization thinks about Theriot. I expect it will become apparent to even them if Theriot is given the starting job.

I think thats rather obvious. Lou has shown no real signs of sticking with a crappy player when he has a better option floating around.

Lou is shooting alot of BS. On Friday's Chicago Tribune Live, Lou pointed out that the only spot open for competition is CF and never once mentioned Cedeno as a possibility at SS. I think Cedeno is going to be traded because Lou doesn't have the confidence in him to give him a chance to compete for a job.

If there is one thing we should have learned about Lou last year, it was that everyone was given a chance to compete for every job. Everyone acts like Lou was Dusty-stubborn last year. If Theriot starts slow or has a bad spring training and Cedeno is lighting it up, you are crazy if you don't think Lou will make a switch.

Matt Murton disagrees...but otherwise I think this is a fair statement.

I'm sure Lou had at least a little something to say about acquiring and using the likes of Monroe, Kendall, Trachsel, etc. over Murton, Soto, and Marshall/Gallagher. I've posted before saying that Lou will play a youngster as long as the youngster is "lighting it up", but at crunch time he wants and plays the veterans.

So that explains why Kendall got most of the playing time at catcher over Soto the last couple weeks of the season and the playoffs.

Oh wait...

A page and a half late, but...

Obvious to you I'm sure, but there are still people floating around here who think Theriot will be just fine @ SS.

ummmmmm... what?

Hehe.....I thought he was laughing because I had made such an obvious statement.

Not only did I miss the unfortunate comination of keys, but I also inserted an amazing phrasing on top of it. Sometimes my powers of unintentional humor are off the charts.

The notion that Lou automatically favors vets over younger players is incredibly dumb. He's not Dusty, he never was Dusty, and it is unlikely that he will be Dusty. Please get over it. If you absolutely need a flogging horse to satisfy your fanboy urges, Mr. Hendry is available and deserving of greater criticism.

Someone at OH is saying the M's could get Bedard and Roberts

What a charade

Not an insider, some guy who is making sure to preface everything by saying it's probably false. His post started out with this:

anyone hear this? I have no confirmation but someone told me tonight...

Heh, this made me laugh:

I'm beginning to think that Angelos has that same problem as Drew Barrymore in that movie with Adam Sadler "(something) First Dates ."Each day Angelos wakes up and has to be reminded as to what happened in the last ten years . To Angelos' surprise , Cal Ripken Jr isn't playing third base anymore .By the end of the day he tells MacPhail he'll sleep on it , and the next day has to be repeated all over again .

People! When you type "at shortstop" as "@SS" it says a bad word. That's the joke.

The people who didn't catch it and thus posted serious responses made it funnier.

Very true.

What was even better was the wording: it went from "huge hole @ss" to "fine @ss." I was very pleased.

I've tried to stay away from this thread for the past couple of days. It's good to see that nothing has changed and we're still sitting here with our thumbs up our butts.

Oh is saying the Bedard trade will be announced on Monday and that the Cubs aren't the only players for Roberts.

2 weeks ago this news would have upset me.

That "some guy" is supposedly Roy Firestone... though considering how much trouble he has not sounding like a 13 year old, I sincerely doubt it is.

What does a guy that makes automobile tires know about baseball?

I'm pretty sure that's actually Roy Firestone. His typing is pretty poor though.

I remember and I was sarcastically refuting the claims that Lou plays the vets at crunch time.

I think you may have misunderstood what I was saying or quoted me instead of somebody else. I'm on your side in this issue.

Now that the Cubs have allow the NFL to have their day in the sun with the Super Bowl, when should we hear about a trade for Brian "Done Deal" Roberts?

Nah, don't want to steal thunder from preparations for the Pro Bowl or the Daytona 500.

APPARENTLY, Adam Jones is on his way to Baltimore for his physical. But then again, we isn't he.
