At least there are 4 teams from Indiana going to the tournament. Even if IU gets bounced in the first round, I'll still have 3 other teams to watch and pull for. Yes, I do pull for Purdue in the NCAA tournament. Scary thought I guess.

Ball State lost again in the final minutes, breaking their one-year-old record for losses in a season, and end up 6-23 (5-11) for the regular season. BSU has lost one road game by more than five points in league play and has either beaten or lost by single digits to all but two teams in the MAC. Should be fun to see how they manage to lose their first-round league tournament game.

I do that with every Illinois team...except Illinois State. So as far as rooting interest goes, this tournament is going to suck for me.

i have to say, i'm kinda proud of Penn State this year. no one will confuse them for a good team, but to lose your best player in game 3 of conference play yet still win 7 Big 10 games (including MSU, IU and twice vs. UofI) is pretty admirable.

sadly, they're just not the kind of program that manages to build on any success

This is supposed to be an accomplishment?

That was completely clean. He got 100% ball up top, was totally vertical and made minimal, if any contact with the body. I don't see how that was a foul. It was hard to tell live from the angle they had, but when they showed the X-mo replay later I saw no foul.

Yes, this is what happened and UCLA was given the game. You can't draw up what the defender did any better than how he did it. I couldn't care less who won the game, but Stanford got robbed.

"He drew contact when he went to the basket," Hill said. "It was still on him to make the free throws."

That's Lawrence Hill, the guy the foul was called on.

ETA: I don't know that I would have called the foul in that situation but that doesn't mean it isn't a foul.

I don't care what the kid says. He doesn't have a great idea of exactly what happened a bang-bang play in that kind of situation, plus he may have just been taking the high road.

Look at the replay. It clearly wasn't a foul. He was completely vertical and it was clear as day (especially on the x mo replay) that he got 100% ball.

The foul call was on the body contact, not the block shot which I agree was 100% clean.

On the first replay, you can clearly see the ref doing the hip check indicating that it was a body contact foul, not a foul on the block. The x-mo and the third replay show that while the shot was blocked cleanly, Hill created body contact. I don't know how you could say Hill made "minimal, if any contact."

That said, I wouldn't have called it (then again I have no clue what the hell Pac-10 refs are doing half the time).

i just saw this play for the first time today. if that is a foul, then pretty much any time a player drives to the hoop and is contested, a foul can be called. simply a horrendous call and a classic case of home cooking.

The refs did all they could to get Duke back in the game, but their shots wouldn't fall. A total phantom travelling call on a rebound/scrap for the ball that had Roy Williams nearly on the floor

I don't want to whine too much, because the light side wound up winning, but the refs' absolute refusal to ever call a foul on any Duke player in the paint was also very frustrating. Hansbrough got beat up nearly every time he got the ball down low - heck, he even got elbowed in the face - and it's the first game this year that he didn't go to the foul line all game.

Anyway, what a game. I think I will remember Danny Green's dunk over Chris Paulus for many years to come.

I think it's Greg Paulus, Chris Paul he is not!

lunardi has kentucky as a 9 seed now. i HATE the 8-9 game. kentucky has been an 8 seed for the past two years... it's a lose-lose situation. i'd much rather be a 12 and play an indiana or drake instead of facing the #1 seed in the 2nd round. that's of course if they win that first game.

it'd be interesting to see what seed UK would get if they won the SECT.

I think they'd get a 6 under those circumstances.

Lose less than 5 games and I guarantee you'll get a better seed than 8 or 9!

Speaking of a 12 seed, It looks like it'll be a winner take all in the Cuse/Nova game. I'm very curious to see how the young guys play in NY this week.

Lute Olson to return to Arizona next season as head coach.

Terrell Holloway joins Devin Ebanks in decommitting from IU

The only thing saving the IU program from a 2-3 year disappearing act is a dynamic hire (Illini fans, Bruce Pearl would fit that criteria).

It sounds like a real mess down there regarding KO. They named him Olson's successor way too soon.

Dane Fife's IPFW Mastodons won their first round Summit Conference tourney game and now they are up on regular season league champion Oral Roberts with 7:33 to go! \:D/

that would be way fun. if anyone is more hated in champaign than sampson, it's that man. he doesn't really bother me, but i acknowledge that heckling pearl in champaign would evolve into an art form.

but seriously, it would probably upset volunteer fans a heck of a lot more.

Sorry Dane, I jinxed 'em. ](*,) But overall, a pretty strong showing to end the season. They almost beat 2nd place IUPUI in the regular season home finale but much like this game tonight, they aren't able to finish against the good conference teams yet.

In addition to Dakich or McCallum, I would heartily endorse Dane Fife as the next IU coach. Come on Rick, you need a man who's a true Hoosier, or some garbage like that.

Took me a minute to realize who was posting this. Sadly, McCallum would probably keep the players and recruits together. He would bring in his son and IU would probably be a pretty good team until they realize he is Mike Davis re-incarnated.

Jeepers raw, you guys should be at the selector phase when it comes to picking a coach.

So what teams got totally boned last night with Gonzaga and South Alabama losing? I'm thinking Ohio State and one of the Big East teams will lose out because of those 2 automatics going to teams that weren't in. I really kind of enjoy watching Boeheim squirm and whine when they don't get in.
