Mizzou at 25 huh? Umm ok, but if they are a top 25 team in the nation, there are a lot of terrible teams out there.

They've got as good a case as anybody. 2 power conference teams away from home and one of the best MAC programs is a decent non-con slate, especially when the biggest obstacle to scoring thus far has been changing play calling to try to kill clock because they're up by 25 points.

Illinois was hardly away from home.

It was like a bowl game, the crowd was split down the middle, and the location was pretty equidistant from the two schools. Definitely not the same as a home game, and they went on the road to an SEC school the next week.

Michigan St is 3-0. I am trying to temper my enthusiasm though

They showed a stat on ESPN when I was at a bar yesterday that showed the last three times MSU started 3-0 they finished 4-8 (2006), 5-6 (2005 when they started 4-0), and 5-6 or 5-7 (2001 I think).

I am tempering my enthusiasm as I said. They really looked good yesterday. The only reason the game was close was because they kept shooting themselves in the foot. Of course this is why they have struggled the last few years. Too many mistakes.

Just remember, no more John L.

Michigan St can make people that way though. Its almost like managing the Cubs.

I like Sagarin's rankings. One of my friends sent me a link to them last year. and I look at them for basketball too.

He lives right here in good ole Bloomington, IN. Nice guy, bit of a math nerd (haha, big surprise).

Ditto Oregon, who rode into the top 13 from being unranked by beating 1-1 Houston, 1-2 Michigan, and 1-2 Fresno State. Unranked to #13 on the strength of beating 3 teams with a combined 3-5 record. Right.

Honestly, who's done more than Oregon? They dominated a Michigan team that was playing for pride, obviously has talent and looked much better this week. Then, they dominated a team that nearly won on the road against a top-25 Big 12 team (albeit one that shouldn't be ranked). I'm not saying Oregon is great, but I think they've accomplished more than most and are deserving of a top-25 ranking.

I'm not saying they shouldn't be ranked, but unranked to #13 is a huge jump, and they haven't beaten anybody with a winning record yet.

And they're beating teams. The same cannot be said for these top 25 teams in the preseason poll: #5 Michigan, #9 Virginia Tech, #10 Louisville, #13 Georgia, #14 UCLA, #15 Tennessee, #18 Auburn, #19 Florida State, #20 Nebraska, #21 Arkansas, #22 TCU, and #24 Boise State. 12 of the 25 teams in the initial poll have already lost (48%).

I'm extremely pleased with the 3-0 start by Indiana. The Hoosiers are playing pretty decent football so far. Yes I realize they will be tested a lot more in Big Ten play but regardless I like what I've seen.

Beating Illinois next week is huge. A 4-0 start would come pretty close to guaranteeing a bowl bid finally after 14 years.

Make no mistake about it--Mizzou is a talented team with a scary offense. Coaching and what may be a suspect D will cost them a game or 2, but they're top 25, imo. And I hate them.

I still don't get this argument. You lost. Get over it.

Mizzou barely beat a team that all of their fans around here thought they would kill, while said team's starting QB was injured. Is Illinois ranked with that win? I don't think so.

Either Mizzou's worse than people think or U of I is better, but instead you still have snide comments about U of I being terrible, and Big XII North championships for Missouri.

I think it's pretty clear that UI is young but pretty talented. I expect they'll be upper eschelon Big 10 in the next couple of years, especially the way Zook recruits. A lot depends on his coaching, too. I still don't know if he got a fair shake at UF or if he was a victim of expectations, as I didn't follow his teams all that closely. But if I were an Illini fan, I'd be excited. It really looks like a program on the rise.

I think the Mizzou win over them will turn out to be more impressive in hindsight, but it also showed that Mizzou is vulnerable--at least early in the season--on D. It will be interesting to see how more veteran, talented teams try to exploit that.

I don't think I've made a snide comment about U of I since then. In fact, I admitted that I underestimated them and they are far more talented than I thought after that game. Good reading comprehension though.

Bottom line is a loss is a loss. If you think Mizzou doesn't have a chance to win the North, you've got obvious blinders on.

That is the unfortunate truth, and the bottom line is they are getting wins in games they should be winning. Can the defense keep playing like that and expect to win the North? Absolutely not, but that's one reason you play non-conference games, to work things like that out before the big conference games.

The only thing I said about predicting the outcome is that Mizzou was going to score a bunch of points.

And even then, you're confusing people and for some reason taking it out on Mizzou/the Mizzou fans here. It wasn't even a Mizzou/B12 guy who said something about Mizzou being a surprise team this year that could win the B12(Dew, I think), and I was the first person to point out that our defense isn't good enough to do that. In the same way, it's not the Mizzou/B12 guys who are trying to keep U of I down by saying Syracuse sucks, etc.(yet there has been the opposite being said by U of I folk).

i think if PSU went 12-0, people would still say they're no good because Wisconsin didn't destroy The Citadel and OSU only beat Akron by 18.
