A good day for Cubs fans is simply maintaining the status quo.

But that doesn't mean I'm enjoying these little victories any less. Hendry as GM 4 Life, Yo!

All other things notwithstanding, the Cubs now have their best 1-2 punch in an exceptionally long time (assuming Lee is somewhere in between 04 and 05 performance) signed for four more years, Ramirez for five. That's a pretty good start.

Left to do: pitching, middle infield, center field (at least). Plus signing Z to an extension next spring.

Let's do it.

So does anyone know if this was actually completed last night or today? Does he count as a Type A signing, or did we get this done before the window closed??

Newsday[/url]"]Prediction: The Angels want to make an impact acquisition this winter, and Ramirez looks like a perfect fit. Look for Los Angeles (of Anaheim, of course) to sign Ramirez to a six-year, $80-million deal.

So in the end, the hometown discount is basically the difference between a guaranteed year, and a mutual option at the end of the contract. Not bad.

...if you are to believe that report. I think we all know how credible all these reports are...

True, but I do believe that could be a likely start point for the angels, give or take a few mil per year. In the end, that hometown discount only looks better and better.

Lets also give a tip of the cap to us, the new generation of Cub fans.

It's a new era IMO. Had they let Aram get away the backlash from the fan base would have been substantial.

Good job everyone.

So mlbtraderumors.com (5/90) and Phil Rogers (5/73 - might still be close) were both wrong?

Shocking!

I think you could apply that to just about every sports peson that has reported on the negiogiations.

Yup. I think they were the two most recent ones, though.

So, how many people went and got drunk for naught last night?

I'm guessing most of them would have gotten drunk irregardless and just checked NSBB because they knew the pending deadline. Normally they'd be wiser than to check out NSBB while drunk.

Making up words now, Raisin? :D

Holy cow, what good news. Now I can still convince myself that they can put together a team good enough to win the NL central next year.

I've said a lot of bad things about Ramirez, his effort, his personality, etc, but by keeping his word and going with his "hometown discount" he really won some points in my book. Thanks Rammy.

Your mom would be disappointed in you. :(

It means without, without regard.

I AM SO HAPPY!

Last nite I was really upset and just got completely hammered so that maybe I would forget how awful everything was going (and to go to a dance party).

And I wake up to this! HAHA Woohoo!

Posted
You gotta get hammered to go to a dance party!

The hot girls were taken because we took so long to pregame, so we went back to reload to either increase our dancing skills or lower our standards.

5/73 according to ChicagoSports.com. Wonder if that includes a buyout.

Wood gets a $1.75 million base with incentives that could bump it up to as much as $7.75 million. I'd have to assume that's if he gets back into the rotation.
